About The Position
The Sheet Metal Fabricator plans, layouts, fabricates, assembles, installs and repairs sheet metal parts for a variety of aircraft and components.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED Required
- 3 years’ experience required; five years preferred in planning, layout and building to blueprints, or product specifications
- Strong understanding of sheet metal fabrication processes, including cutting, bending, welding, and assembly techniques
Responsibilities
- Possesses a high level of attention to detail and workmanship to fabricate and assemble components while holding key critical dimensional tolerances
- Proficient in set-up and operation of fabricating machines, such as shears, brakes, presses, forming rolls, and routers, to cut, bend, block and form, or straighten materials
- Understands how to lay out and mark dimensions and reference lines on material applying knowledge of shop mathematics and layout techniques to develop and trace patterns of product/parts
- Trims, files, grinds, deburrs, buffs, and smooths surfaces, using hand tools and portable power tools
- Reviews, reads and understands military technical manuals, technical orders, modification work orders, blue prints, sketches and product specifications to determine sequence, method of fabrication, assembly and installation.
- Complies with safety rules and procedures and uses protective equipment as required; remains alert for unsafe conditions
