About The Position

The Sheet Metal Mechanic (with Strong Refrigeration Experience) is responsible for installing commercial HVAC and refrigeration systems with a primary focus on sheet metal ductwork fabrication and installation. This role plays a key part in delivering high-quality mechanical installations that meet project specifications, safety standards, and performance expectations. The ideal candidate is a skilled trades professional who brings hands-on refrigeration experience, strong technical knowledge, and pride in workmanship. This position requires the ability to read blueprints, coordinate effectively with team members on active jobsites, and ensure systems are installed correctly, efficiently, and in compliance with applicable codes. This role contributes directly to project success by maintaining installation quality, supporting team productivity, and upholding Interstate Mechanical’s standards of professionalism and craftsmanship.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Sheet Metal Mechanic
  • Strong hands-on experience with commercial refrigeration installation
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and blueprints
  • Working knowledge of HVAC and refrigeration codes and best practices
  • High attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
  • EPA Certification (preferred or ability to obtain)

Nice To Haves

  • Commercial or industrial project experience
  • Refrigeration piping, brazing, and pressure testing experience
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills

Responsibilities

  • Fabricate and install sheet metal ductwork, fittings, and accessories
  • Install commercial HVAC and refrigeration systems per project specifications
  • Install refrigeration piping, perform brazing, and pressure testing
  • Read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, and mechanical plans
  • Ensure proper airflow, system performance, and code compliance
  • Coordinate with foremen, project managers, and other trades on-site
  • Troubleshoot installation issues as needed
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized jobsite
