The Shark Smart Internship involves creating educational materials and setting up an outreach booth that travels to local beaches. The booth provides sun cover for interns and creates an area where educational props and tools can be used to answer the public’s questions and engage beachgoers in conversations around shark activity, research, and public safety. Shark Smart interns will also take one shift a week at the Shark Center and when weather does not permit you to be on the beach. This will provide the interns with an opportunity to see and take part in educating museum guests, and connect with their peers and other professionals within the organization. AWSC Shark Smart Interns will become more comfortable and confident informal educators/presenters, gain outreach experience, and make valuable professional contacts for future scientific and/or educational endeavors. This internship position provides interns with the ability to design and execute an outreach program, all the while building skills in science communication. During the internship, one will work on a project that aligns with your skills and interests, with guidance from your internship advisor.
