About The Position

The Shared Capabilities Director (director) leads the team responsible for providing shared capabilities across the Workday and Enterprise Solutions Team (WEST). These capabilities enhance the overall teams’ ability to solve business problems and enhance UW's use of Workday and other enterprise applications. The director works with WEST leaders to ensure strategic alignment of resources and the effectiveness of technology solutions. The director works across the HCM, Finance and technology teams to advance the delivery capabilities of the overall team. These capabilities include, and are not limited to, project management, organizational change management, cross-functional system solution design and configuration, testing, release management, system access architecture and management, security, system administration and configuration, standardized team-wide work processes and governance. The director provides strategic leadership for functions that span WEST. The director partners closely with Universities of Wisconsin business leaders to ensure operational needs are successfully enabled by enterprise technology solutions. The director establishes operational success measures and works with their team to identify opportunities to improve operational effectiveness. The director confirms operational milestones are met and tracks process key performance indicators in partnership with the WEST management team and other business leaders. The director is responsible for effective communication and reporting to stakeholders at all levels of the Universities of Wisconsin, collaborating across lines of business to manage cross-functional topics and working closely with executive leadership to maintain alignment and provide the information required when and how they need it. In partnership with the WEST leadership team, the director is responsible for the successful facilitation of on-going governance and prioritization efforts (including decision-making and issue/risk management) to ensure WEST is aligned with the highest value initiatives for the Universities of Wisconsin. The director stays closely connected with Workday and associated technology advancements to advise WEST and business leaders on the availability of new technology solutions. Partnering with the functional teams, the director develops the UW enterprise applications product road map, facilitates key decisions regarding the system configuration and operation, advocates for the product internally, and represents the team in meetings with peers and executive leaders across the university user community. The director enables UW enterprise application product roadmap and continuous improvement efforts through relentless prioritization of backlogged items to ensure the team is delivering the most valuable solutions (e.g. working on the right things at the right time). The director seeks opportunities to eliminate gaps and implement solutions that add value to the business through the alignment of product and business strategy. They facilitate the constant review of the product backlog, ensuring resources are focused on the initiatives that will create and add the most value while facilitating the uptake of new system functionality in order to stay current and take full advantage of UW's enterprise application investments. The director works to secure timely decisions and facilitate business decision-making/escalations within the team and through governance. The Shared Capabilities Director leads the team responsible for updating and implementing new system configurations and provides guidance to functional and technical leaders. In this role, they supervise a team of managers and business analysts that partner with business leaders to design, configure, test and deploy solutions both within and across ERP technologies to meet the ever-changing needs of the business. Furthermore, the Shared Capabilities Director leads centers of excellence for capabilities distributed across WEST. They provide cross-workstream direction in alignment with institutional goals and key operational milestones. They define the vision and guiding principles for the teams supporting the product and develop and implement strategies to maximize product value to the business and enhance the user experience. They manage and support the team’s performance to achieve deliverables as scheduled through the effective allocation and development of talent and skills. They act as a coach and mentor the team. In addition, they serve as an early escalation point for issues and risks, guide the teams on effective allocation of time and focus, and identify when issues and problems require business leader direction. It's preferred that this position operate in a hybrid format with a combination of remote work and an occasional on-site presence. Requirements

  • Organizational context – Familiarity with the complex needs and challenges of a multi-university system that includes a system office and a flagship research university.

Responsibilities

  • May perform manager functions through subordinate managers
  • Advises institutional or divisional leadership on enterprise information technology operations and business models
  • Develops operating policies and procedures to comply with regulations, institutional policies, and objectives
  • Serves as the primary liaison representing the interests to internal and external stakeholders for enterprise IT services
  • Provide leadership in support of continuous improvement, a customer service focus and the delivery of high quality, secure and reliable services.

  • Directs strategic information technology planning initiatives and establishes objectives to ensure appropriate use of financial, administrative, and staffing resources in alignment with the strategic plan
  • Exercises supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and/or approving hours worked of at least 2.0 full-time equivalent (FTE) employees
  • Contributes to a culture of open engagement and inclusion. Builds positive relationships with executive leaders, stakeholders, peers, and team members.
