The Recreation department is introducing new changes to this year's WORKREATION program, which will begin in June 2025. After August 2025, there may be an opportunity to continue employment into the academic school year. This position is a temporary exempt, as-needed appointment, and is seasonal, meaning it will not result in an eligible list for a permanent civil service position. Employees serve at the will of the Appointing Officer. The program has been running for 65 years, providing local young people the chance to gain valuable work experience, learn responsibility and professionalism, and develop job skills. Assignments will take place in various neighborhood parks and recreation centers, involving activities such as arts and crafts, sports, cooking, gardening, and facility support. The basic work week schedule is Monday through Friday or Tuesday through Saturday, with up to 20 hours weekly, and may include evenings and weekends.
