About The Position

The Sexual Health Educator is a valued member of the Minnesota Community Care team, strengthening our community through the planning, delivery, and evaluation of culturally and linguistically appropriate health education and outreach activities on a variety of health topics, in individual, group, clinical, and community settings. Normal work hours are 8:00 am - 5:00 pm, Monday-Friday. This position requires semi-regular evening and weekend work. Outreach season can affect hours and may require flex time for weekend and or evening work.

Requirements

  • Experience working with adolescents in clinical or school settings.
  • Experience working with diverse communities and skilled in delivering LGBTQ inclusive, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive services.
  • Training and experience in youth development, health education or community education.
  • Group facilitation skills and experience.
  • Comfort in discussing sexual health issues in 1:1 and group settings.
  • Experience in and ability to work in an urban, collaborative environment, particularly with schools, multiple agencies, providers, and multiple levels of government.
  • Demonstrated high level interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively on cross functional and diverse teams (internal and external) on teen sexual health prevention issues.
  • Background and experience in motivational interviewing (MI).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and experience in public speaking.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred Bachelor's degree in community health, health education, public health, or related field.
  • Preferred Associate degree in community health, health education, public health, or related field.
  • Certification in Community Health Worker, SOPHE, NCHES, or related field.
  • At least three years of experience as a health educator or related experience with emphasis on sexual and reproductive health, and community outreach or in lieu of an equivalent combination of related education and/or experience may be considered.
  • Bilingual skills in Spanish, Somali, or Hmong are desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, deliver, and evaluate individual and group health education services in clinical, community, on appropriate health promotion topics to effectively increase awareness and understanding for target populations.
  • Liaise with clinical care team and program staff to identify, recruit, and enroll eligible clients into health education services.
  • Assess the needs of clients and determine objectives of health education based upon collaboration with supervisor and program manager.
  • Align clinical interventions, group education, community programs and educational materials with current evidence and best practices, while promoting health equity.
  • Assess educational strategy, appropriateness and effectiveness of printed materials, website content social media communication with the Health Education team.
  • Follow methods of data collection, tracking, entry, and reporting, as assigned.
  • Provide subject matter expertise to communications/marketing team in developing and producing educational materials (print, electronic, social) for specific target populations.
  • Counsel and educate clients on wellness, health issues, and specific health concerns on an individual basis by assessing individual needs and promoting and supporting specific behavioral changes.
  • Participate in community health education and outreach efforts by meeting/planning/engaging other community health stakeholders, e.g., health department staff, school-based staff, health educators, community leaders, and activists.
  • Participate in grant activities with supervisor, including grant reports, and fulfilling all grant requirements pertaining to program.
  • Participate in continuing educational activities in order to stay abreast of current trends and research.
  • Know, understand and adhere to organizational policy related to the patient's rights for confidential care.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
