Summary Directs and manages the care of the sexual assault patients in accordance with the policies and procedures of the Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) program of LVHN.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited Nursing program.
  • Knowledge of specialty training in sexual assault examination techniques as outlined in approved hospital protocol.
  • Knowledge of problem-solving process in identification and resolution of patient care or other problems.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support - State of Pennsylvania Upon Hire
  • RN - Licensed Registered Nurse_PA - State of Pennsylvania Upon Hire
  • Lift and carry 25 lbs. frequent sitting/standing, frequent keyboard use, patient care providers may be required to perform activities specific to their role including kneeling, bending, squatting and performing CPR.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing.
  • 1 year experience as a registered nurse.

Responsibilities

  • Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates patient plan of care and carries out required activities according to sexual assault exam protocols and procedures.
  • Serves as a hospital liaison for community awareness of the SANE program and assists with curriculum development for community outreach and education.
  • Communicates with patients, family, physicians, law enforcement, social agencies, and other health care disciplines in achieving excellent patient care and maintenance of chain of evidence during hospitalization and discharge planning.
  • Ensures adequate staffing to meet patient care needs for the sexual assault victim.
  • Works collaboratively with SANE administrative staff and Emergency Department to review and revise SANE policies and procedures as appropriate.
  • Participates in and applies research practice as it relates to care of sexual assault victims.
  • Works with sexual assault resource team in program implementation, operation, and evaluation process.
  • Attends mandatory educational seminars and meetings as determined by SANE program standards.
  • Provides input as requested for performance appraisals of SANE care delivery team members.
