About The Position

The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is one of the largest, most complex agencies in the state, and has approximately 17,000 employees. It is responsible for ensuring the health, safety, and well-being of all North Carolinians, providing human service needs for special populations including individuals who are deaf, blind, developmentally disabled, and mentally ill, and helping poor North Carolinians achieve economic independence. The primary duties of this position is to construct, alter, and mend garments and textile items according to customer needs. Measure customers using tape measures to ensure proper fit of garments. Cut sew and assemble clothing using patterns and commercial sewing machines. Repair damaged garments. Maintain sewing equipment inventory, and work area cleanliness. About Murdoch Developmental Center: Murdoch Developmental Center is a 24/7 state residential facility located in Butner, NC, near the Research Triangle area. Murdoch serves individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities (I/DD). Murdoch is a caring community where professionals work with people of various ages, cognitive and functional abilities.

Requirements

  • Education and/or experience in sewing that is directly related to the job and consistent with accepted practices of the trade equivalent to a least six months of experience in a commercial or institution sewing, or completion of a sewing course; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience of laundry/linen, sewing, and alterations, machines operations, and repair, etc.
  • Must maintain the care and use of supplies, equipment, etc., and maintain the appearance of the Linen Room in a safe, clean, and comfortable manner.
