About The Position

The sewing machine operator operates standard or special industrial sewing machines to perform multiple operations in joining parts of fabricated articles. The operations performed are repetitive, and a steady pace, accuracy, and quality are the principal requirements. The sewing machine operator is responsible for the quality of caps sewn according to company and customer specifications.

Requirements

  • Ability to perform repetitive operations, maintaining speed and accuracy to achieve daily and weekly production requirements.

  • Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception
  • Ability to stand or sit for scheduled work hours.
  • Ability to repetitively lift, carry, and position objects weighing up to 30 lbs.
  • Able to work overtime, including Saturdays if needed.
  • Able to wear all necessary personal protective equipment to perform job functions (appropriate footwear).

  • Sewing experience in a manufacturing environment preferred

Responsibilities

  • Sewing fabric and other raw material components together utilizing multiple and various sewing machines and other equipment utilized to construct baseball caps.
  • Set up the machine with appropriate raw materials (i.e. thread, taping, bobbins, etc.) to perform a specific operation.
  • Positions parts to be joined under pressure foot and needle and lower presser foot.
  • Starts, stops, and controls the speed of the machine, using a foot pedal.
  • Guides parts under needle, using fingers and hands, and following edges, seams, guides on machine bed, or markings on part.
  • Observes stitching to detect defects and notifies supervisor when defects are caused by machine malfunction.
  • Selects sewing parts and supplies, such as taping, haircloth, fronts, backs, peak boards, eyelets, sizing, labels, and other supplies according to specifications.
  • Oils machine, changes needles, and secures attachments to the machine as needed.
  • Counts and stacks parts.
  • Keeps all sensitive matters confidential.
  • Other duties as assigned including cross-training on various sewing machines and equipment as required.
