About The Position
The Sewer Jet Flusher Assistant position at the City of Fort Wayne involves assisting in the operation of a jet flusher and related equipment to clean sewer lines. Under the general supervision of the Sewer Jet Flusher Operator and direct supervision of the Cleaning Supervisor, the incumbent will be responsible for inspecting and making adjustments to machinery as needed, as well as preparing reports related to the functions of the jet flusher. The role requires the use of chemicals to mitigate grease buildup and root intrusion in the sewer collection system. The incumbent is expected to demonstrate good judgment, independence, initiative, and professional expertise in daily operations, adhering to all city and departmental policies, as well as federal, state, and local regulations. Essential duties include operating the jet flusher, setting up equipment at various locations, positioning nozzles and hoses, and monitoring water levels in the tank. The assistant will also be responsible for maintaining accurate records of work performed and conditions found, following safety regulations, and performing physical tasks that may include lifting up to 50 pounds, working in confined spaces, and enduring adverse weather conditions. The position does not have supervisory responsibilities but may involve assisting in the training of other employees when necessary. To qualify for this role, candidates should have a high school education or equivalent, experience working with chemicals, and knowledge of sewer systems and jet flusher equipment. The position requires a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with a Tanker endorsement, CPR and First Aid certification, and training in confined space entries, fall protection, and gas monitoring. The incumbent must be able to communicate effectively and perform mathematical calculations as needed for the job.
