The Setup Machinist Level 1 at The WellBoss Company is responsible for the efficient setup and operation of CNC machines to produce parts with precision. This role involves running basic programs, conducting inspections, and maintaining production quality while adhering to safety and operational standards.

  • Run basic programs on CNC machines.
  • Report on correct production quantity as needed.
  • Utilize basic part inspection equipment.
  • Accurately place part identification on finished goods.
  • Detect and report machine malfunctions.
  • Detect and identify out-of-tolerance production.
  • Execute required tool offsets in tool list to maintain required tolerance.
  • Identify abnormal operating conditions and notify maintenance.
  • Record downtime in electronic system.
  • Maintain weekly NCR levels and rejection rate below 3% of work order.
  • Maintain a scrap rate below 4%.
  • Conduct required preventive maintenance (PM's) at assigned station.
  • Consistently achieve daily production target of 90%.
  • Utilize optical comparator for inspections.
  • Remove CNC waste efficiently.
  • Have a basic understanding of G&M code.
  • Manually prep oversized blanks without assistance.
  • Troubleshoot machine issues such as clearing alarms and adjusting jaws.
  • Produce parts that require mid-range degree of accuracy.
  • Make basic on-machine program corrections.
  • Produce all parts within company library specifications.
  • Train new operators on machine operations.
  • Operate all machines on the production shop floor.
  • Perform basic setups when needed.
  • Machine complex metal parts as required.
  • Understand all measuring equipment used on the production floor.
  • Have an intermediate understanding of prints and inspection techniques.
  • Possess advanced tool knowledge.
  • Assist machine operators to minimize downtime.
  • Ensure machines are following the production schedule.
  • Execute setups and changeovers in a timely manner.
  • Conduct first articles when not running production.
  • Perform other functions and responsibilities as assigned.
  • High school diploma or GED is required; advanced degree or certificate is preferred.
  • Two to five plus years of lathe and mill experience; diverse background in running different types of machines is preferred.
  • Intermediate-to-advanced knowledge of general mathematics and ability to apply it practically.
  • Advanced mechanical aptitude skills.
  • Ability to work in a team-oriented, high-pressure, and fast-paced environment.
  • Fluency in speaking, reading, and writing the English language is preferred.
  • Basic computer literacy skills.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work with minimal supervision while providing leadership to coworkers.
  • Strong time management skills with the ability to operate multiple machines simultaneously.
