  • Oversee the setup and operations of assigned Filler Rod lines.
  • Identify and correct problems in the production area.
  • Work with Operators in an instructional manner to improve their skills and job knowledge.
  • Monitor, coach, reward, and address employee behaviors concerning safety, environment, quality, and productivity.
  • Minimize production downtime and department scrap.
  • Review operators behaviors concerning environmental safeguards and employee safe work practices.
  • Keep the production lines running efficiently and minimize downtime related to mechanical or electrical problems.
  • Assist operators in determining when parts need changing due to excessive wear.
  • Inform the Quality Assurance Department of changeovers or Special Order production runs.
  • Control the separation of material that is held up for further tests or requires special handling.
  • Direct the movement of held up/out of spec/rejected material to the designated hold area.
  • Work with the Scheduler and Shift Supervisor to maximize output.
  • Set up and assist other setup personnel on changeovers of assigned Filler Rod lines.
  • Maintain straightening, precision casting, and/or steiner roll units according to procedures.
  • Perform assigned preventative maintenance duties on assigned lines and equipment.
  • Oversee the training of new employees and operators being cross-trained.
  • Help develop operators' skills regarding troubleshooting and other applicable tasks.
  • Assist engineering with new equipment projects and product development.
  • Ensure wood reel products are cooled properly and wrapped in a timely manner.
  • Follow military specs and ensure proper completion of paperwork and MES traceability.
  • Review, understand, and follow departmental procedures, EW Specifications, SSW Specifications, and Plant Rules and Regulations.
  • Obey all safety rules and maintain cleanliness of the work area.
  • High school degree or equivalent required.
  • Ability to read, write and do general math well enough to keep records.
  • Ability to understand and interpret specifications and procedures.
  • Self-motivated, safety and quality conscious; requiring minimal supervision.
  • Mechanically skilled.
  • Basic computer skills and willingness to learn new systems.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Organizational skills to manage changeovers across multiple lines efficiently.
  • Time management skills.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to visually recognize and distinguish different colors.

  • Extensive experience and complete working knowledge of all equipment and procedures in the Filler Rod Department.
