The Service Writer position with the City of Corpus Christi is a full-time role focused on managing the maintenance history of the City's fleet. This position is crucial for controlling and reducing operating costs, maintaining resale value, ensuring compliance with regulations, and minimizing downtime. The Service Writer will be responsible for maintaining the highest level of data integrity throughout the maintenance process. This includes responding to customer issues, reviewing scheduled maintenance and recalls, and transforming data into actionable information for Foreman, Mechanics, and customers by utilizing the Assetworks M5 software. The role requires a proactive approach to ensure that all maintenance records are accurate and up-to-date, which is essential for effective fleet management. In this role, the Service Writer will open work orders, enter relevant information such as job details, estimated times and costs, and notes into the work order system. They will then assign these work orders to the Foreman for further action. Once the work is completed, the Service Writer will confirm labor and job details to finalize the work order. Additionally, they will research necessary maintenance using the M5 system, obtain invoices from vendors, and create requisitions for contracts and purchase orders. The Service Writer will also be responsible for monitoring open work orders for any discrepancies and ensuring that all records are properly maintained for future reference. The position involves regular communication with customers to update them on the status of their units, provide information or approvals for vendors, and dispatch mechanics and vendors to breakdown locations as needed. The Service Writer will also manage inventory for everyday items and may need to travel to vendors to pick up parts, vehicles, and equipment. The role requires occasional lifting of up to 15 pounds and operating a forklift, for which a certification is required. The Service Writer may also be asked to perform other duties as assigned, contributing to the overall efficiency of the fleet maintenance operations.
