About The Position

The Service Worker I will perform various manual labor tasks related to maintaining, cleaning, and improving parks, recreation areas, and other public spaces. This entry-level position is responsible for ensuring that parks, athletic fields, and grounds are kept in excellent condition to provide a safe, enjoyable, and clean environment for community members and visitors.

Requirements

  • High School graduation or its equivalent; or sufficient education to understand and follow instructions, or any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the assigned duties.
  • Basic custodial and gardening techniques; light carpentry, electrical, and plumbing.

  • tolerate outside working conditions, including adverse weather conditions
  • establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and the public.
  • Possess a valid Texas Driver’s License.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in groundskeeping, landscaping, or maintenance is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains city facilities and grounds by performing groundskeeping tasks such as mowing, edging, trimming, planting grass, trees, shrubs, flowers, and mulching using a variety of light to medium equipment, including hand tools, mowers, blowers, trimmers, and chainsaws.
  • Performs construction, remodeling, repairs, and preventive maintenance on city facilities and grounds as needed.
  • May assist other personnel with painting facilities and other items, such as restrooms, buildings, tables, and barrels.
  • Assist with light carpentry, electrical, irrigation, and plumbing duties as needed.
  • Assist in the maintenance, care, and routine repair of parks, playgrounds, athletic fields, and recreational facilities, including park equipment, benches, tables, and other assets, as well as the assembly of equipment.
  • Collect and dispose of trash and debris from parks, trails, and public spaces.
  • Cleans and sanitizes restrooms, including fixtures, floors, and mirrors. Also replenishes soap and paper goods.
  • Cleans and maintains city facilities, parks grounds, and pavilions.
  • Assist with event setup and breakdown, including moving equipment and preparing park areas for public use.
  • Set up tents, tables, and chairs for City-sponsored events and rentals as directed.
  • Ensure compliance with safety protocols and report any hazards or maintenance issues to immediate supervisor.
  • Complete work orders and assignments through the city’s maintenance system.
  • Provide excellent customer service to park visitors, answering questions, and offering assistance as needed.
  • Loads, transports and unloads necessary materials and equipment for assigned projects.
  • May assist with concrete application and with form building.
  • Serves as essential emergency personnel when required.
  • Regular and prompt attendance is an essential function of the position.
  • Performs such other duties as may be assigned.
