About The Position

We are seeking a detail-oriented and safety-focused Service Testing Technician responsible for electrical testing of transformers, switchgear, and circuit breakers at our Commerce City, CO facility and customer sites. This role requires strong technical capability, hands-on troubleshooting expertise, and the ability to work independently while maintaining strict adherence to safety and environmental standards. This position includes approximately 35% travel, with per diem, hotel, and gas expenses covered.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED (Required)
  • Minimum 2 years of hands-on experience in electrical testing, transformer manufacturing, or switchgear diagnostics
  • Proven experience performing transformer and switchgear testing procedures
  • Strong knowledge of electrical systems, insulation materials, and diagnostic tools
  • Experience using hand tools, power tools, and industrial equipment
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Strong technical documentation and reporting skills
  • Solid communication skills for professional interaction with customers and internal teams
  • Physical ability to climb, enter transformer tanks, and perform elevated work safely
  • Willingness to travel approximately 35%

Responsibilities

  • Perform electrical testing of transformers, switchgear, and circuit breakers.
  • Conduct advanced diagnostic tests including Turns Ratio, Insulation Resistance, Winding Resistance, Power Factor, No-Load & Full-Load Tests, Hi-Pot, and Induced Tests.
  • Evaluate electrical equipment condition through internal and external inspections.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose transformer operational issues.
  • Safely drain and fill transformers with insulation oil using industrial pumps.
  • Perform minor repairs and internal connection checks within transformer tanks.
  • Operate forklifts and industrial equipment in compliance with load capacity and safety limits.
  • Follow OSHA regulations, company safety policies, and spill containment/environmental compliance protocols.
  • Complete detailed work orders, technical reports, and documentation for all testing activities.
  • Communicate findings clearly to supervisors and internal/external stakeholders.
  • Work effectively in outdoor environments and harsh climates (heat, cold, industrial conditions).
