About The Position

Owen Equipment is looking to hire an experienced Heavy Equipment Service Technician Mechanic to join our growing team. We are one of the largest Vactor and Elgin dealers in the United States and sell, service and rent sewer cleaners, vacuum excavators, street sweepers and related accessories. We are the largest supplier in the Western U.S. of replacement brushes and brooms for sweeping equipment. We maintain five full-service locations in Portland, Oregon; Kent, Washington; Spokane, Washington; Fairfield, California; and Salt Lake City, Utah and our customer base consists of the largest municipalities and contractors in the Western U.S. Our equipment is critical to keeping our streets and sewer systems clean, locating buried infrastructure during construction projects, and helping to build and maintain our electrical grid. This role involves equipment maintenance, repair, welding, and fabrication to ensure optimal performance and safety.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in hydraulics, electrical, and pneumatic systems.
  • Proficiency with oxy-acetylene torch and basic fabrication tools.
  • Strong problem-solving and reasoning skills; safety-conscious mindset.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physically demanding tasks.
  • Complete personal toolset, valid driver’s license with clean driving record, and ability to pass drug screening.
  • Willing to learn electrical and hydraulic schematics.
  • Basic math skills and ability to read SAE/metric measurements.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills; ability to multitask effectively.

Nice To Haves

  • Welding and fabrication experience a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair heavy equipment and trucks.
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance (oil changes, filter replacements, lubrication).
  • Inspect equipment for wear, damage, and compliance with safety standards.
  • Service hydraulic systems, pumps, hoses, and cylinders.
  • Repair or replace mechanical components such as bearings and seals.
  • Interpret and work from hydraulic and electrical schematics.
  • Use diagnostic tools to identify and repair electrical issues.
  • Repair wiring, sensors, and control systems using multimeters and scan tools.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Follow OSHA and company safety standards.
  • Assist with unloading trucks and handling parts as needed.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, parts diagrams, and SAE/metric measurements.
