Service Technician - Battery

About The Position

SUMMARY The Forklift Battery Technician is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and installing customer’s forklift batteries and chargers in various material handling equipment. Must be able to verify the battery or charger is up to safety standards. Must maintain working knowledge of and proficiency in all OSHA and local requirements related to all assigned work. Must be extremely safety conscious to avoid potentially being injured by acid, fumes, electric shock, or chemical explosions.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in the battery business
  • Must have working knowledge of electrical circuits and electronics
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Must be a Certified Forklift Operator

Responsibilities

  • Communicate with suppliers about warranty issues.
  • Able to burn lead to make connections and case connectors.
  • Responsible for diagnostics on batteries, acid adjustments, rebuilds by replacing cells, connectors, cables, etc. to batteries.
  • Monitor and request supplies used in battery charger and repair shop, such as: acids, cells, tape, connectors, etc.
  • Keep inventory of all changing system parts in inventory.
  • Be able to do all repairs to changers and systems.
  • Charging, rotation, cleaning, and watering of batteries.
  • Build relationships with internal and external customers and vendors
  • Receive all new batteries, record serial numbers, and maintain battery inventory records
  • Provide high quality battery and charger service work to customer
  • Identify and address problems and opportunities for the company
  • Perform other duties as required per management
  • Manage work and shop area to keep clean and safe in compliance with all safety policies.
  • Use manuals, repair manuals, parts manuals, parts diagrams to troubleshoot components on material handling equipment
  • Safely use lift trucks, overhead cranes, & other aides to lift or move batteries into position to be repaired.
  • Use miscellaneous resources & computers to reference parts, get information about batteries & enter data.
  • Climb up onto, under, & into vehicles, use hand & power tools to disassemble/reassemble
  • Attend training classes and keep current on product advancements.
  • Must be a team player and have excellent interpersonal and communications skills
  • World class customer service and ability to maintain positive working relationships
  • Must be able to lift up to 75 lbs. (and occasionally more than 75 lbs.)
  • Must be able to pass a DOT physical and drug screen
