This job involves reading gas meters for residential, commercial, and industrial customers, recording readings for billing purposes, and observing and reporting any abnormal, dangerous, or damaged conditions pertaining to gas meters and adjacent areas. The position may also involve performing basic service and/or construction work as qualified and required, and training entry-level Meter Readers. The role requires adherence to safety protocols and the company's core values.

  • Reads gas meters for residential, commercial and industrial customers.
  • Records readings for billing purposes.
  • Observes and reports all abnormal, dangerous and/or damaged conditions pertaining to gas meters and adjacent areas.
  • Observes and reports atmospheric corrosion or damage.
  • May perform basic service and/or construction work as qualified and required.
  • Able to train entry level Meter Readers.
  • Identifies, addresses, and reports safety and encroachment issues.
  • Responsible for the safe operation and inspection of assigned Company vehicles and equipment.
  • Demonstrates support for and adheres to the Company's values, strategies, policies and procedures.
  • Must become familiar with the contents of the Safety Manual and complete all required safety training.
  • Requires a general educational knowledge normally acquired through a high school diploma or a General Equivalency Diploma (GED).
  • Requires a valid driver's license.
  • Must obtain and maintain Operator Qualifications (OQs) and classroom training for position and any other required OQs and classroom training.
  • Requires the ability to communicate with internal and/or external customers.
  • Requires the ability to perform basic addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
  • Requires basic computer skills for data entry, reference and/or retrieval tasks.
