About The Position

UPMC is excited to announce we are hiring our second class for our state registered four-year apprenticeship program in Facilities and Maintenance. This paid program offers a pathway to skilled trades through hands-on training, mentorship, and the opportunity to develop essential skills while working in a world-renowned health system. When the apprenticeship is successfully completed in four years, the individual is promoted to a Journeyman-1 position and they will become a part of the UPMC Career Ladder structure. This role will be a paid position at the standard hourly rate of $19.10/HR. This apprenticeship combines full-time on the job training with online learning through Penn Tech in their mechatronics program. Class work will be scheduled four hours per week. Time will be provided during working hours to attend class during your shift. Individuals will have the opportunity to take PMMI Certificates for each area covered at Penn Tech. The position will typically work Monday through Friday during the hours of 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM. The apprentice will be assigned to UPMC Hamot.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED
• Age 18 at start of apprenticeship
• Achieve a score of 35% or higher on aptitude test
• Complete in-person interview
• Computer knowledge with ability to attend classes online
• Must remain in good standing with both CCAC or Penn Tech and UPMC
• Must maintain minimum grade standards
• Complete labs in person
• Walking or standing for extended periods of time
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs occasionally; lift up to 20 lbs frequently.
• Some overtime may be required.

Responsibilities

• Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical equipment such as motors, pumps, conveyors, doors, fans, boilers, heat exchangers and controls.
• Assist with installation, replacement, repair, and testing of electrical circuits, equipment, wiring, appliances, systems, lighting, signals, communication, generating and distribution equipment, and power circuits.
• Maintain, test, repair and modify heating, ventilating, air conditioning, refrigeration and related temperature controls and equipment throughout the facility.
• Operate, monitor, and perform preventive maintenance on high-pressure boilers, boiler auxiliaries, and other related mechanical/ life safety equipment.
• Maintain daily log, preventive maintenance records and equipment repair files.
• Complete Environmental Health and Safety competencies, attend bi-monthly safety meetings, complete Annual Mandatory training.
