As a Service Support Engineer (also referred to as a Field Service Engineer), you will serve as a primary technical representative for GatesAir, delivering on-site and remote support to domestic and international customers operating broadcast transmission systems. You will manage the full lifecycle of field service engagements, from site surveys and installation through commissioning, acceptance testing, and long-term operational support, ensuring reliable system performance and a high-quality customer experience. This role requires a technically proficient, self-directed professional with effective communication skills, sound judgment, and a commitment to service excellence. The position involves frequent travel and participation in an after-hours On-Call rotation to support mission-critical broadcast operations.

Requirements

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to clearly convey technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently in the field while maintaining strong coordination with cross-functional teams.
  • Proven capability to manage multiple priorities in dynamic, time-sensitive environments.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience supporting broadcast transmission or RF-based systems in a field service, commissioning, or technical support role.
  • Solid understanding of RF transmission, amplification technologies, and broadcast signal modulation methods.
  • Firsthand experience with broadcast and RF test and measurement equipment, including spectrum analyzers, power meters, and modulation analyzers.
  • Strong electronic troubleshooting skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex system-level issues.
  • Mechanical aptitude and experience performing equipment installation, integration, and system checkout activities.
  • Willingness and ability to travel extensively and participate in after-hours On-Call support.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s degree in Electronics or equivalent professional experience; bachelor’s degree in a related technical field is preferred.
  • Experience working in high-power RF, television, radio, or digital broadcast environments.
  • Networking and IT fundamentals relevant to modern broadcast and monitoring systems.
  • Demonstrated customer-facing professionalism, including presentation and on-site representation skills.
  • Experience contributing to technical documentation or training materials.

Responsibilities

  • Provide professional, solution-oriented on-site field service support for GatesAir transmitters and associated broadcast systems, including installation, commissioning, proof-of-performance testing, and system acceptance.
  • Perform site surveys and technical assessments to support project planning, system upgrades, and new deployments.
  • Deliver customer training on system operation, routine maintenance, and basic troubleshooting to ensure long-term system reliability.
  • Respond to warranty, emergency, and corrective maintenance service calls in accordance with GatesAir service policies and customer service level commitments.
  • Provide remote technical assistance during non-travel periods, including participation in after-hours emergency phone support on a rotational basis.
  • Collaborate closely with Engineering, Sales, Project Management, and Service Operations to resolve technical issues and support customer requirements.
  • Accurately document service activities, findings, corrective actions, and recommendations using approved service reports and internal systems.
  • Develop, review, and update technical documentation including service bulletins, technical manuals, and user or administrator guides.
  • Support factory and field feedback loops by identifying recurring issues, systemic risks, and opportunities for product or process improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory requirements while working on customer sites and company facilities.
  • Maintain readiness to travel extensively, up to approximately 70%, to domestic and limited international customer locations.
