About The Position

The Illinois Department of Employment Security (IDES) is seeking a Service Representative to adjudicate complex unemployment insurance (UI) benefit claims and perform job placement functions. This role involves making decisions on monetary and nonmonetary claims, providing recommendations for employment-related issues, and referring clients to appropriate resources. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of unemployment insurance legislation and excellent organizational skills.

Requirements

• Knowledge equivalent to the completion of four years of college in social/behavioral sciences or business/personnel administration and one year of professional experience with IDES; OR five years of professional experience in personnel administration or business management.
• Two years of experience adjudicating unemployment insurance benefit claims issues.
• Two years of experience investigating and explaining unemployment insurance case dispositions.
• Two years of experience in employment service and job placement functions under unemployment insurance legislation.
• Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel).

Nice To Haves

• Experience providing written determinations for unemployment insurance claims.
• Experience utilizing vocational counseling techniques.

Responsibilities

• Adjudicate monetary and nonmonetary unemployment insurance benefit claims issues.
• Make multi-claimant decisions and provide recommendations for employment and unemployment-related issues.
• Refer job seekers to employers and partner agencies for additional employment services.
• Establish and maintain activity records and reports.
• Conduct reconsidered determinations and accept appeals.
• Assess job seeker client skills and determine their unemployment insurance needs.
