About The Position

As a Service and Repair Technician in the fire protection industry, you will be responsible for troubleshooting, servicing, maintaining, testing, and repairing fire alarm systems to ensure reliable operation and code compliance. This role is critical to supporting customers in the field by diagnosing issues, completing repairs efficiently, documenting work accurately, and helping ensure fire alarm systems are restored to proper working order. Requirements

  • Fire alarm system installation, configuration, and programming (panels, detectors, alarms, notification devices).
  • Programming customization to meet project requirements and integrate with building systems.
  • Preventative maintenance, testing, troubleshooting, repairs, and component replacement.
  • Code compliance awareness (federal/state/local) and thorough service documentation.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, blueprints, and schematics.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and engineering/software applications.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to explain technical information clearly to clients.
  • Customer-focused approach to understanding needs and providing recommendations and training.
  • Problem-solving and analytical mindset for diagnosing issues and identifying solutions.
  • Reliable, adaptable, and able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional education or relevant certifications are a plus.
  • F-Card, NICET, and OSHA 10 required; Siemens experience preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience installing or servicing electronic control systems; fire alarm experience preferred.
  • Must be able to demonstrate knowledge of fire alarm systems.
  • Standing and walking for extended periods, and frequent bending, kneeling, crouching, reaching, and climbing.
  • Working at heights (using ladders, scaffolds, and/or lifts) and in confined or limited-access spaces such as ceiling plenums, risers, mechanical/electrical rooms, and crawl spaces.
  • Lifting and carrying tools, test equipment, and materials (typically up to 50 lbs., with or without reasonable accommodation).
  • Using hand tools and diagnostic equipment (meters, testers, programming tools) requiring fine motor skills and manual dexterity.
  • Ability to safely operate a company vehicle (if assigned) and travel between job sites as needed.
  • Ability to clearly communicate and document service findings, repairs completed, and recommendations, including using mobile devices or tablets for service documentation.

Responsibilities

  • System Installation and Programming Install, configure, and program advanced fire alarm systems, including control panels, detectors, alarms, and notification devices. Customize system programming to meet project requirements and support integration with other building systems.
  • Maintenance and Repair Perform regular maintenance and testing to ensure optimal performance and reliability. Troubleshoot and diagnose issues; report technical problems; execute repairs and replace components as needed.
  • Compliance and Documentation Ensure systems comply with federal, state, and local fire safety codes and regulations. Maintain accurate records of inspections, tests, repairs, and service activities. Complete required documentation for compliance and reporting purposes.
  • Team Collaboration Collaborate with technicians and service personnel to complete projects and support emergency response situations. Participate in training and professional development opportunities.
  • Communication Communicate with clients to understand needs and provide technical support and recommendations. Conduct client training on system operations and maintenance.
  • Miscellaneous Tasks Travel to project sites as needed. Perform other duties as assigned.
