About The Position

This role is with Detroit Pump, a division of Tencarva Machinery Company. Detroit Pump is seeking a dynamic leader for its service and repair business. If you have hands-on experience with process pumps and demonstrated leadership skills, this is a great opportunity for you! We have a clean, modern shop with established operating procedures and an experienced staff. Summary: Oversees the operation of the service business and its output to produce the best, highest quality product on-time to meet and exceed customer expectations, while maintaining a safe, efficient, and cost-conscious environment.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or 3-5 years related work experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum five (5) years’ experience in service/repair department management and/or plant maintenance management, with a thorough knowledge and application of safe working practices and applicable safety standards.
  • Strong background with process pumps.
  • Familiarity with electrical systems and controls.
  • Ability to read and understand assembly drawings, machining drawings, electrical and controls schematics.
  • Strong mechanical skills and ability to troubleshoot a variety of pumps.
  • Hands-on experience with machining and fabrication.
  • Ability to interface with vendors and customers, win new work; determine project requirements; develop proposals including cost estimates; and develop work plans and repair procedures.
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills, with an ability to multi-task and prioritize activities.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions, data and details furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees.
  • Prior experience using an ERP system.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including, Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Ability to remain calm when faced with mounting pressure related to deadlines and multiple priorities.
  • Good financial management and planning skills; ability to understand financial reports. Ability to develop realistic, comprehensive plans to make efficient use of resources.
  • Must have the ability to read, analyze, and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. The ability to write routine reports and correspondence. The ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers and employees.
  • Must be able to perform basic mathematical equations including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, use of whole numbers, and percentage and decimals.
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should have basic computer skills, knowledge of MS Office Software (i.e., Word, Excel, Outlook) and internet software.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license, and no points.
  • Must be able to exert force over 100 pounds occasionally, and more than 50 pounds frequently; climb, balance, stop, kneel, crouch, reach overhead, stand, walk, push, pull, lift, finger, grasp, feel, talk, hear, and perform repetitive motions. Specific vision abilities required by this job include being able to accommodate/adjusting the lens of the eye to bring an object into sharp focus and maintain a good field of vision, observing an area that can be seen up or down or right or left while eyes are fixed in a given point. Must be able to fulfill all essential job functions in a consistent state of alertness and safe manner.

Responsibilities

  • Manage all shop personnel - repair technicians, field service technicians, pump assemblers, machinists, and fabricators
  • Assist and direct efforts to troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair a variety of hydraulic, pneumatic, material handling, lubrication and fluid dispense systems and components
  • Assign repair work to be performed; set daily shop schedule
  • Monitor and manage repair, field service, machining, fabrication, and assembly operations
  • Occasional customer-relationship management with key accounts, those requesting on-site service at the customer’s location, and/or those raising questions, issues or concerns regarding our repair services and/or capabilities.
  • Monitor quality of repair work by verifying SOPs are being followed
  • Work closely with repair coordinators to ensure quotes are accurate for labor time, price, and delivery
  • Monitor shop throughput, utilization, and expenses
  • Prioritize jobs and tasks based on customer needs and expectations.
  • Keep salespeople informed of the status of their orders
  • Communicate with customers regarding field service work, pickups, and deliveries
  • Coordinate outside services such as sandblasting, electric motor rewinding, mechanical and crane services
  • Ensure that all repairs are performed in compliance with applicable manufacturer specifications and requirements
  • Maintain shop organization and cleanliness
  • Manage all aspects of safety, ensuring compliance with OSHA
  • Other duties as assigned by management.
