About The Position

The T&D Service Manager is responsible for overseeing all maintenance, repair, and service activities for company-owned equipment and some fleets. This role ensures equipment reliability, minimizes downtime, manages service personnel, and maintains compliance with safety and operational standards. The Service Manager works closely with Operations, Logistics, and field teams to support efficient, safe, and cost‑effective equipment availability across the organization.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED, required.
  • 5+ years of heavy construction mechanical experience in transmission and distribution or renewable energy construction, required.
  • 1+ years of supervisory/managerial experience, required.
  • Valid Driver’s License, required.
  • Ability to travel 16-30% of the time domestically, required.
  • Advanced knowledge in transmission, distribution, substation and battery storage equipment.
  • Experience with diagnostic tools, such as CAT ET Systems are required.
  • ⁠Understands and complies with all DOT rules and regulations.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and diagnose issues remotely and provide guidance to field service.
  • Ability to use hand tools, power tools, machines, and equipment
  • Efficient in Microsoft Suite of products
  • Excellent communication and computer skills
  • Ability to manage remote staff
  • Functional competencies include attention to detail, customer focus, teamwork, accountability, and prioritization.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor equipment condition, performance data, and service logs to determine maintenance needs.
  • Prioritize and schedule preventative maintenance, repairs, and inspections.
  • Ensure equipment is maintained to company standards, regulatory requirements, and OEM specifications.
  • Develop and manage daily, weekly, and long‑range maintenance schedules.
  • Coordinate equipment downtime with operations to minimize disruptions.
  • Ensure availability of parts, tools, and resources for scheduled work.
  • Assign work orders to technicians based on skill level and workload.
  • Provide technical guidance, troubleshooting support, and on‑the‑job training.
  • Oversee technician performance, productivity, and adherence to safety procedures.
  • Create, review, and close work orders in the asset/maintenance management system.
  • Maintain accurate documentation for repairs, inspections, labor hours, and parts usage.
  • Manage inventory levels for critical parts, consumables, and shop supplies.
  • Work with vendors and suppliers to source parts, equipment, and specialty services.
  • Oversee outsourced repairs and manage warranty claims.
  • Enforce safety standards including lockout/tagout, electrical, heavy equipment, and hydraulic procedures.
  • Conduct routine shop and equipment safety inspections.
  • Analyze downtime trends, recurring failures, and service data to identify improvements.
  • Recommend equipment upgrades, replacement schedules, and process improvements.
  • Monitor maintenance expenses, labor utilization, and cost per asset.
  • Approve purchases and ensure expenditures align with budget expectations.
  • Identify cost‑saving opportunities through process optimization and vendor management.
  • Provide routine updates to operations, logistics, leadership, and field teams on equipment status.
  • Support mobilizations, demobilizations, and new project equipment requirements.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for equipment-related questions and issues.
  • Generate and present maintenance KPIs including PM completion, backlog, and downtime metrics.
  • Operates Company vehicles to oversee site and facility operations.
  • Attends work regularly and punctually, as scheduled or expected.
  • Complies with Employee Handbook, Code of Conduct and Company Policies & Procedures.
  • Lead continuous improvement efforts for maintenance processes, workflows, and technician development.
  • Support adoption of new technologies, tracking tools, and maintenance procedures.
  • Participate in incident investigations and support corrective actions.
  • Support implementation of reliability‑centered maintenance strategies
