Through its Service Extension Program, The Salvation Army serves suburban and rural areas where no physical Salvation Army center exists. The Service Extension Representative must live in (or within 30 minutes of) the zone served: Sauk Richland Juneau Monroe Grant Vernon Adams Crawford Waushara The Service Extension Representative creates and maintains a Salvation Army presence in communities not served by a Corps by providing emergency assistance for the body and spiritual care for the soul. Provides direction to Service Extension Volunteers in the distribution of emergency assistance, fundraising and enhances corporate donor relationships within the service area. About the role: Participates with the Service Extension Director in planning for the development of the program and recommend plans and changes in the program. Works with volunteer consultants throughout the service area to recruit and fill vacancies on Service Unit rosters, i.e., Chairpersons, Kettle Coordinators, Disaster Coordinators, Recruits, trains, and manages volunteers as needed for all program services. Ensures ongoing training for Service Extension Unit volunteers and schedules regional meetings with Service Extension volunteers and Corps Community personnel. Participates in community planning and/or organizing activities, designated as relevant to the objectives of the Service Extension Department. Explains the function of the Service Extension Department to the communities served through participation in community groups or activities, dealing with the social problems of individuals or families, and develops relationships with professional and administrative personnel in public, private, or civic groups. Provides direction, guidance and resource information through regular personal visits, correspondence and phone calls with Service Extension volunteers. Monitors Service Extension Unit expenditures versus their budget allocations on a regular basis. Ensures that Service Extension Unit volunteers adhere strictly to fiscal guidelines. Manages the Christmas Kettle Campaign(s) for the service area. Promotes special fund-raising activities in designated Service Extension areas and encourages volunteer involvement in Christmas Kettles and other special events. Also has the ability to hire Seasonal Kettle Coordinators with the SE Directors blessing. Provides client casework when necessary. Provides advice and assistance in responding to disasters in cooperation with Emergency Disaster Services. Participates on behalf of The Salvation Army in United Way budget hearings within the region, providing required information on programs and services, and encourages local volunteer participation. Provides a monthly calendar of events for scheduled activities. Maintains a file of regional success stories to be used in Army communications. Maintains a listing of corporations within the service region; shares this with the Grant Writer for possible funding to support local programs.
