About The Position

The essential functions of the job for the Server require compliance with standards of business conduct in accordance with federal, state, and local health and regulatory standards and guidelines. The Server must possess, at a minimum, a high school diploma or a GED and be able to work well with peers in a congenial work environment while maintaining compassion and dignity towards residents. In exigent circumstances, the employee may be subject to call back during emergency conditions. Adherence to attendance policies and the Employee Handbook is mandatory. The Server must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English, and maintain high standards in caring for residents and their families. All facility policies and procedures must be followed.

Requirements

  • Must possess a high school diploma or GED.
  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English.
  • Must be able to lift a 25-pound tray overhead.
  • Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday.
  • Must cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
  • Must be able to see and hear or use prosthetics to function adequately.
  • Must meet general health requirements set by facility policies, including a medical and physical examination.
  • Must be able to relate to and work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and agitated residents.
  • Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of 25 pounds to a minimum height of 5 feet and carry such weight a minimum distance of 50 feet.
  • May be necessary to assist in the evacuation of residents during emergencies.

Responsibilities

  • Provide meals and beverages to residents in the dining room and ensure a positive resident experience.
  • Set up and clean up the dining room for meal service and perform other prep/closing duties.
  • Take attendance at meals if assigned.
  • Offer residents beverages prior to meals, including ice water, juice, milk, or other desired beverages.
  • Ensure appropriate condiments are available for the current meal.
  • Prepare the dining room for meal service.
  • Participate in pre-service meetings and tastings to understand the meals being served.
  • Be knowledgeable of menu items, including daily specials and special diet accommodations.
  • Ensure food orders are correct as requested by residents before serving.
  • Serve resident meals in courses as often as possible.
  • Ensure residents are satisfied with meal presentation and have everything they need.
  • Inform the kitchen of any resident concerns regarding meals.
  • Remain available during meal service for assistance.
  • Notify medical staff immediately of any medical emergencies or changes in eating habits.
  • Work closely with the Food and Beverage Director, Dining Room Supervisor, Cooks, and fellow staff.
  • Follow community policies regarding safety standards and food sanitation.
  • Wear appropriate uniform and nametag and adhere to hygiene standards.
  • Clean up vases, change tablecloths, and wipe down chairs as necessary.
  • Keep the dining room floor clean and vacuum between meals.
  • Maintain a positive, welcoming, and accommodating attitude towards residents.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Food and Beverage Director, Dining Room Manager, and Executive Director.
