About The Position

The Server and Storage Administrator I/II position at the Michigan Supreme Court involves the implementation, maintenance, and integration of server and storage architecture, providing essential support to end users. The role encompasses responsibilities related to server security, enterprise software installation, and compliance with external security audits. The position is available at two levels: SSA-1, which operates under general supervision, and SSA-2, which functions independently and may lead projects or mentor others.

Requirements

  • Associates degree in Computer Science or Computer Information Systems for SSA-1; Bachelor's Degree for SSA-2.
  • Two years of related experience for SSA-1; five years for SSA-2 in computer information systems, data communications, networking, systems analysis, and computer programming.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft OS, Windows 2012-2022 Server and Infrastructure (AD, CIFS, DNS, DHCP, Clusters and GPO).
  • Familiarity with Microsoft application technologies such as IIS, SCCM, Remote Desktop Services, SQL, and group policies.
  • Experience with VMware technologies such as vSphere, vCenter.
  • Knowledge of backup technologies such as Veeam ONE, Veeam Backup and Replication.
  • Familiarity with storage technologies such as EMC Power Store, ExaGrid, Fiber Channel, RAID.
  • Understanding of data center design including UPS, Power Distribution, Cable Plant, Cooling and Fire Suppression.
  • Experience with enterprise monitoring technologies such as Solar Winds.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with TCP/IP, UDP, HTTP, HTTPS, ICMP and Ethernet switching.

Responsibilities

  • Architect, install, troubleshoot, administer and optimize server operating systems and server hardware.
  • Architect, install, troubleshoot, administer and optimize SAN/NAS systems.
  • Architect, install, troubleshoot, administer and optimize server and desktop virtualization environments.
  • Architect, install, troubleshoot, administer and optimize server storage and backup environments.
  • Architect, install, troubleshoot, administer and optimize server and storage security solutions.
  • Specify, install, monitor, and maintain data center power, cooling and fire systems to maintain a high level of availability.
  • Monitor server, storage and applications and ensure prompt corrective action is initiated.
  • Evaluate, select and apply proven techniques, procedures and criteria, in making enhancements and modifications to server and storage systems.
  • Organize the tracking of hardware and software modifications to the server and storage infrastructure via standard change management practices.
  • Assist with maintaining and troubleshooting VOIP systems.
  • Participate or lead specialized projects with other functional groups as required.
  • Participate or lead in short- and long-term server, storage and data center planning.
  • Identify security issues and risks, and develop mitigation plans.
  • Evaluate and recommend new and emerging server, storage, virtualization, and data center technologies; define server and storage standards.
  • Maintain and expand professional and technical knowledge through research, training and empirical testing.
  • Serve as a technical advisor and liaison within the Court, with other courts, community groups, and/or governmental agencies.
  • Support service desk when required to resolve customer issues.
  • Be available 24x7x365 to respond to network and security emergencies.
