About The Position

Facilities Development and Management seeks a Server Administrator Sr. to administer, manage and evaluate all aspects of the server/system architecture to ensure optimal network reliability, security, data integrity and inter-operability with third party systems and applications.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and three (3) years of experience appropriate to the area of assignment/field; OR, any equivalent combination of experience and/or training from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
  • Knowledge of server administration concepts, principles, practices and methods and best practices.
  • Security/permission standards.
  • Server administrators and web site administration.
  • VMWare systems and hosts.
  • Experience in routing/switching/firewall connectivity.
  • Troubleshooting routers/switches/firewall connectivity issues.
  • Resolving security breaches.
  • Setup and administering server OS and hardware.
  • Using advanced troubleshooting technology to resolve issues.
  • Maintains MCSE certification (or RHCE for Linux).
  • Evidence of effective communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and oversee performance of all file servers and network performance within department to ensure adherence with established standards and policies.
  • Work closely with University Technology Office to identify, evaluate, and resolve network and infrastructure issues.
  • Evaluate and integrate new technology, methodologies, and data administration protocols, standards, and security measures consistent with overall objectives of the department.
  • Plan future growth of the department infrastructure through projecting and forecasting capacity requirements based on analysis of current performance levels and ability to meet demands.
  • Maintain and review connectivity and monitors performance of servers, network, and database integrity.
  • Coordinate diagnostic testing to correct performance problems; coordinate and perform testing of system enhancements and patches.
  • Perform test scripts and system configuration to ensure results achieve desired outcomes throughout all affected systems.
  • Participate in feasibility studies of new enhancements to current infrastructure and provide recommendations and analysis of anticipated outcomes.
  • Monitor disk space and system usage; analyze rate of growth to available equipment.
  • Re-allocate disk space to maximize usage.
  • Evaluate infrastructure and hardware platforms to determine effectiveness and compatibility with established systems to support and further needs, plans, and objectives of the department.
  • Create documentation on how to setup server per project specifications.
  • Remain abreast of technology directions, initiatives, and trends within scope of expertise to provide ideas, guidance, and recommendations.
  • Document system architecture and configuration.
