About The Position

Rider University is seeking a Sergeant for the Department of Public Safety. The role involves supervising Public Safety operations to ensure the safety and security of individuals and property on campus. The Sergeant will oversee Public Safety Officers, provide guidance during emergency situations, and ensure accurate reporting and accountability of incidents. This position requires flexibility in working hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, and may involve additional assignments on short notice.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum of two years experience in related operations.
• At least one year of demonstrated experience in a related leadership position.
• Satisfactory completion of an approved course at a police training academy or security officer training academy (e.g., NJ CUPSA).
• Ability to prepare, read, and correct reports.
• Flexibility to work any shift, any day of the week.
• Must be at least 21 years of age.
• Valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record.
• Effective communication skills and ability to perform well under pressure.
• Physical condition necessary to fulfill duties.
• Completion of a satisfactory background and DMV check.

Responsibilities

• Supervise all Public Safety operations during the tour of duty.
• Assist Public Safety Officers in the performance of their duties.
• Provide necessary information regarding activities and occurrences on campus.
• Direct and instruct officers regarding response to calls for assistance, especially emergency calls.
• Ensure all assignments are complete and correct.
• Respond to incidents disrupting the normal functioning of the University or its community members.
• Correct and review incident reports and daily activity paperwork for accuracy.
• Perform investigations as needed.
• Prepare training manuals and instruct new Public Safety Officers.
