About The Position
Transylvania University invites applications for the full-time position of Sergeant, Department of Public Safety. Transylvania, founded in 1780, is the nation’s 16th oldest institution of higher learning and is consistently ranked in national publications as one of the top liberal arts colleges in the country. Transylvania is located blocks from downtown Lexington, KY, in central Kentucky. The Sergeant is the second in command on their shift. The Sergeant is acting duty commander when the shift Lieutenant is unavailable or not on duty. The sergeant reports directly to the Lieutenant or Captain when acting as shift commander. The candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a Commission as a Special Local Peace Officer with the Kentucky Justice and Pubic Safety Cabinet. A valid driver’s license is also required. Requirements
- Candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a Commission as a Special Local Peace Officer with the Kentucky Justice and Pubic Safety Cabinet.
- A valid driver’s license is also required.
Responsibilities
- Ensure that department policies and procedures are adhered to by the patrol units on shift.
- Ensure that all paperwork is correct and turned in before the end of shift.
- Be present during all major incidents occurring on shift.
- Be knowledgeable of KRS and Transylvania University policies as they relate to the Department of Public Safety.
- Know all duties of an SLPO as defined in subject Peace Officer, Department of Public Safety and perform these tasks as needed.
- Have an understanding of the Patrol Lieutenant’s role and responsibilities so that they may assist the Patrol Lieutenant as needed.
