Job Description SUMMARY: Under general supervision of the City Marshal and/or Chief Deputy, assigns, reviews, assists and supervises the daily work and responsibilities of the code enforcement division within the City Marshals Office. Performs complex tasks relative to assigned responsibilities and daily departmental functions. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following: Supervises law enforcement and/or civilian personnel during the assigned shift and monitors shift activity to ensure actions are in accordance with procedures and applicable laws. Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community. Reviews documentation reports for accuracy and compliance with City ordinance and other applicable Laws Ability to lead and train employees, to include organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments. Plan, coordinate, prioritize, assign, supervise, review, and participate in the work of sworn and non-sworn personnel on an assigned shift. Monitor work activities to ensure compliance with established policies and procedures; participate in the development of policies and procedures; make recommendations for changes and improvements to existing policies and procedures. Act as a liaison with other outside agencies, the public, and between management and subordinate personnel. Contact and coordinate with other law enforcement agencies in matters relating to the investigation of crimes and the apprehension of offenders, disaster preparedness, training, information systems and records management. Anticipate libelous situations; reduce or eliminate civil exposure. Answer questions from the public concerning local and State and Federal laws, procedures, and activities of the department; participate in community meetings, including oral presentations. Investigates complaints concerning shift personnel. Employees may at time be required to work in order to provide for the safety and well-being of the general public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services, in the event of an emergency. Establishes priorities to coordinate, plan, organize and complete work in accordance with sound time-management methodology. Provides liaison services with local, state and federal officials and local neighborhood groups. Supports the relationship between the City of Galveston and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with citizens, visitors, and City staff; maintains confidentiality of work-related issues and City information; performs other duties as required or assigned.
