The SerDes Test Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and implementing effective testing methods for infrastructure software and hardware, focusing on high-speed serial interfaces and integrated circuits. This role involves troubleshooting systems and equipment throughout all phases of product development, ensuring optimal performance and accuracy in testing methodologies.

  • Devise test methods to evaluate the performance and operating margins of high-speed serial interfaces and supporting circuitry.
  • Develop statistically and scientifically sound methodologies for challenging analog tests.
  • Measure electrical characteristics in the picosecond and millivolt regime for new integrated circuits.
  • Collaborate with chip designers to enhance testability and methodologies.
  • Research and evaluate state-of-the-art test equipment and design optimal test hardware configurations.
  • Utilize advanced bench test equipment to assess the parametric performance of networking ICs.
  • Isolate issues at various levels including system, sub-system, PCB, chip package, and die level.
  • Design automated bench-level device testing procedures using programmable test equipment.
  • Participate in the design and development of chip evaluation fixtures and test hardware.
  • Generate comprehensive test reports with clear analysis methods.
  • Bachelor's degree with 8+ years of related experience, or a Master's degree with 6+ years, or a PhD with 3+ years of related experience.
  • Understanding and implementation of test methods for high-speed serializer/deserializer products.
  • Ability to track and meet commitments to product characterization or engineering development schedules.
  • Familiarity with modern high-speed test equipment including power supplies, multimeters, spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, and more.
  • Ability to measure and analyze jitter and noise in sub-picosecond and sub-millivolt domains.
  • Understanding of VLSI IC I/O & control, and built-in self-test (BIST) principles.
  • Familiarity with communication standards such as Ethernet, SATA, PCI-Express, USB3, SONET/SDH, and OTN.
  • Knowledge of fiberoptic components in system/testbed applications is beneficial.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Extensive programming experience in languages such as C, C++, C#, Matlab, Perl, or Python.
  • Familiarity with calibration standards and methodologies.
  • Experience in presenting at industry forums and conferences.
  • Ability to work methodically and detail-oriented in a team environment.
