The Sepsis Resource Nurse coordinates patient care during and after the diagnosis of Sepsis to ensure implementation of the Sepsis Resuscitation and Management Bundle. Under minimal direction, incumbents apply theoretical concepts of nursing and the sepsis bundle to clinical practice when providing specialized patient care and nursing education pertaining to treatment and recognition of the septic patient. The Sepsis Resource Nurse is expected to provide other health services for this specific patient population. These include but are not limited to working closely with the Sepsis Manager, nurses and physicians in developing, implementing, and monitoring sepsis quality improvement initiatives. The Sepsis resource nurse will also be educating staff, reviewing patient cases, identifying trends, and collaborating with healthcare teams to optimize patient outcomes across the healthcare system; essentially acting as a clinical expert on sepsis to ensure best practices are followed and quality standards are met. The sepsis resource nurse may be required to perform other related duties as assigned. The Sepsis Resource Nurse will collaborate with the Quality Department, Sepsis Team, and multidisciplinary teams to: Provide expert advice and guidance to nursing and medical staff on sepsis identification, assessment, and management protocols. Participate in clinical audits to evaluate sepsis care against established standards, identify areas for improvement in sepsis management through data analysis and trend monitoring. Lead committees to develop and implement evidence-based sepsis protocols and guidelines. Track key performance indicators (KPIs) related to sepsis care and reporting findings to relevant stakeholders. Deliver sepsis awareness and management training sessions to healthcare staff across different disciplines. Create educational materials and tools to support staff competency in sepsis care Work closely with physicians and other healthcare professionals to coordinate sepsis care pathways Engage with multidisciplinary teams to optimize patient flow and improve sepsis outcomes Review sepsis cases to identify potential areas for improvement in diagnosis, treatment, and communication Provide feedback to clinicians on sepsis management practices Analyze sepsis data to identify trends and patterns, informing quality improvement strategies Utilize data to measure the effectiveness of sepsis interventions and monitor progress The Sepsis Resource Nurse may be required to perform other related duties as assigned.
