Bring your intelligence and creative spirit and join us at MPD! The Sensor Modeling and Simulation Department (SMSD) resides within MPD. Our team includes scientists and engineers across a broad range of disciplines actively engaged in developing the next generation of remote sensing systems of national importance. SMSD supports all aspects of advanced remote sensing system development: designing and assessing the performance of optics and electro-optical focal plane arrays, modeling the end-to-end sensing system, developing innovative data processing, and producing simulated data products for new applications. Work Model: This is a full-time position based in Chantilly VA which requires 100% on-site work.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related STEM field, particularly Computer Science, Remote Sensing, Imaging Science, Astronomy, Physics, Mathematics, Atmospheric Science, Optical or Electrical Engineering
  • Eight years of related post grad experience with collaborative software development, numerical methods, and/or physics-based modeling
  • Strong programming and version control skills, ideally C++, Python, and git
  • Communication expertise and ability to develop software requirements from engineering code
  • Willingness to travel approximately 10% of time
  • This position requires ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret/SCI security clearance, which is issued by the US government. U.S citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance
  • Twelve years of related post grad experience
  • Track record of leadership and mentorship
  • Modeling and simulation of EO sensors

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced degree or degrees in a related STEM field, particularly a combination of Computer Science and Remote Sensing, Imaging Science, Astronomy, Physics, Mathematics, Atmospheric Science, Computer Science, Optical or Electrical Engineering
  • Agile software development and Atlassian tools
  • FORTRAN, MATLAB, or IDL development skills
  • Sensor hardware performance and evaluation experience
  • Current and active Top Secret/SCI security clearance

Responsibilities

  • Develop well tested, documented and architected software for high-fidelity modeling and simulation of EO sensors
  • Work with Subject Matter Experts to develop modular physics-based modeling code to evaluate system performance against multiple requirements
  • Ensure adherence to development standards and industry best practices
  • Identify opportunities to improve performance, maintainability, or testing of new and existing software
  • Collaborate across the Aerospace Mod & Sim enterprise to ensure interoperability of department tools with the larger simulation frameworks
