About The Position

The Senior Workers Compensation Claim Representative will manage Workers' Compensation claims with lost time to conclusion and negotiate settlements where appropriate to resolve claims. The role involves coordinating the medical and indemnity position of the claim with a Medical Case Manager. The representative will independently handle assigned claims of low to moderate complexity, which may involve minor sprains or moderate surgery. The position requires close to moderate supervision for claims of greater complexity, including those with moderate to complex litigation issues. The representative will conduct investigations, establish reserves, manage files, collaborate with specialty resources, and negotiate settlements.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of 1 year Workers Compensation claim handling experience or successful completion of the WC trainee program required.
  • 2 years Workers Compensation claim handling experience preferred.
  • Analytical thinking skills to identify problems and explore alternative solutions.
  • Strong communication skills to express thoughts clearly and concisely.
  • Intermediate negotiation skills to reach fair agreements.
  • General knowledge of insurance contracts and principles of investigation.
  • Intermediate knowledge of medical conditions and treatment needed.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct investigations to determine compensability by assessing policy coverage and contacting relevant parties.
  • Establish and update reserves to reflect claim exposure and document rationale.
  • Manage files with an emphasis on file quality, ensuring timely contact and proper documentation.
  • Collaborate with internal nurse resources to integrate medical services into the claim strategy.
  • Pursue offset opportunities, including apportionment, contribution, and subrogation.
  • Effectively manage litigation to drive files to an optimal outcome.
  • Negotiate settlement of claims within designated authority.
