About The Position

AECOM is seeking an experienced Senior Wildlife Biologist/Project Manager with strong experience in project management to support some of California's most exciting power, transportation, and water projects. This hybrid position will be based in our Sacramento,CA office and would support a variety of projects throughout California. We are seeking a motivated individual to join our group of more than 100 environmental professionals in northern California.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in biology, ecology, or a related field.
  • 6 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education as a task lead or Project Manager on projects involving habitat assessments, wildlife surveys, environmental permitting, and/or construction monitoring.
  • Valid U.S Driver's license is required.
  • Due to the nature of the work, US Citizenship is required.

Nice To Haves

  • 8+ years of relevant experience.
  • Experienced in managing project tasks, budgets, and schedules, and experienced acting as a lead reviewer of technical reports.
  • Prior experience in a client-facing role is highly desired.
  • Experience as a field and technical lead, providing oversight and guidance to junior and mid-level biologists and other technical staff.
  • Project Management experience is desired but not required.
  • Working knowledge of special-status wildlife and plants of northern California, and the associated state and federal environmental protections. Familiar with the agencies having jurisdiction over special-status species.
  • Familiarity with permit application requirements, and the typical challenges and strategies related to environmental permitting.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with both clients and internal staff.
  • Good organizational skills and a strong detail-oriented work style.
  • Experienced in developing project scopes and estimating project costs. Marketing and proposal experience is desired.
  • CDFW Scientific Collecting Permit and/or U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service 10(a)(1)(A) permit(s).
  • Prior experience in environmental consulting.
  • Knowledge of and experience with the California Environmental Quality Act and National Environmental Policy Act.

Responsibilities

  • Act as Project Manager on multiple projects, including responsible and timely management of budget, project tasks, schedules, and project teams.
  • Work closely with clients and internal staff on complex projects involving biological resource protection, species surveys, permitting, mitigation, and/or restoration.
  • Utilize a background in biology to inform the preparation of, and provide senior review of, technical memorandums, permitting documents, and other technical reports.
  • Conduct as-needed wildlife surveys and site visits, and oversee and manage field efforts conducted by others.
  • Contribute as an active and positive member of AECOM’s Environment practice.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior and mid-level staff as needed.
  • This role may include the opportunity to act as supervisor to a team of biologists.
