About The Position

As the Senior Welding Engineer, you will lead a team of welding engineers, develop design and process specifications, create and mature design concepts, provide procurement support, and generate drawings and design documentation for welded products. As team leader, you will both perform and delegate work, provide technical oversight, and oversee project scheduling and resource planning. In this role you will interface with Business Project Managers, Mechanical Design Engineers, Sourcing and Equipment Manufacturers, and Engineering Leadership across the businesses.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Welding Engineering or equivalent engineering discipline from an accredited university or college.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience working in an engineering environment.
  • Eligibility Requirements: Ability and willingness to travel to domestic and international plant sites.
  • This role is restricted to U.S. persons (i.e., U.S. citizens, permanent residents, and other protected individuals under the Immigration and Naturalization Act, 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)) due to access to export-controlled technology.
  • GE will require proof of status prior to employment.

  • Familiarity with the following welding processes: GMAW, FCAW, SMAW, and LBW
  • Knowledge of the following codes: ASME BPV Code Section III Division V, Section VIII Div 1, and AWS D1.1 and D1.6.
  • Experience in the BWR or PWR industry preferred
  • This role requires access to U.S. export-controlled information. If applicable, final offers will be contingent on ability to obtain authorization for access to U.S. export-controlled information from the U.S. Government.

Responsibilities

  • Develop design and processes for welded components, both in support of improvements to existing products and new products
  • Operate in a matrixed engineering team to ensure high quality deliverables in accordance with customer requirements, business procedures and regulatory agency guidelines.
  • Perform metallurgical analysis of weldments based on familiarity with the physical and welding metallurgy of austenitic stainless steels.
  • Demonstrate familiarity or expertise with the following welding processes: GTAW and Resistance Welding
  • Have working knowledge of the following codes and standards: ASME BPVC Section III Division 1 Section IX, and AWS A2.4 and A3.0
  • Assist engineers in weld joint design concepts and design for component producibility while maintaining focus to assessing causality and risk.
  • Provide technical support through Sourcing for fabricator assessment and interfaces.
  • Troubleshoot welding issues; provide and support implementation of solutions
  • Prepare invention disclosures to protect the technology that provides a competitive advantage to the business
  • Create schedules and work estimates for welding projects to meet business and customer needs
  • Lead the welding team by assigning resources, obtaining and communicating updates, escalating issues as well as performing the work to support a wide variety of business applications including existing plant services, fuel and component manufacture, and new plant design

  • For candidates applying to a U.S. based position, the pay range for this position is between $113,200.00 and $188,800.00.
  • The Company pays a geographic differential of 110%, 120% or 130% of salary in certain areas.
  • The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate’s experience, education, and skill set.
  • Bonus eligibility: discretionary annual bonus.
