About The Position

Spotts, Stevens and McCoy (SSM) is seeking a Senior Water/Wastewater Engineer to join our Environmental Engineering Division. You’ll collaborate with an experienced team of engineers and scientists on a diverse portfolio of municipal and industrial water, water resources, and wastewater projects, including treatment facilities, distribution and collection systems, and long-range system planning. This position offers the opportunity to lead technical design efforts, guide staff, and maintain trusted relationships with long-standing clients who rely on SSM for practical, reliable, and forward-thinking solutions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Environmental, or Chemical Engineering
  • 10+ years of professional experience in municipal or consulting engineering for water and wastewater systems
  • Pennsylvania Professional Engineer (PE) license (required)
  • Proven experience with treatment process design, sludge handling, and system planning
  • Familiarity with water and sewer piping design
  • Strong technical writing skills and ability to prepare reports, cost estimates, and proposals

Responsibilities

  • Leading or supporting the design of water and wastewater treatment facilities, including process design and equipment selection.
  • Preparing and reviewing Planning Modules, Act 537 Sewage Facilities Plans, and permit applications for DEP and other regulatory agencies.
  • Performing engineering calculations and studies for treatment process optimization and system capacity.
  • Designing or reviewing water distribution and sewer collection systems, including pipelines, pump stations, and hydraulic analysis.
  • Developing cost estimates, technical specifications, and construction documents.
  • Managing project schedules, budgets, and deliverables in coordination with internal and external partners.
  • Preparing technical reports and supporting proposal development for new opportunities.
  • Providing mentorship to junior engineers and technical staff.
  • Collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams to deliver comprehensive facility designs.
