Role description: Arcadis is seeking a Senior Water/Wastewater Engineer to join our Resilience Water team in Syracuse, NY. This role sits within our global business area Resilience. Role accountabilities: As a Senior Water/Wastewater Engineer, you will apply your expertise and technical knowledge of water and wastewater evaluations, design, and construction to serve as a Lead Technical Designer, Task Manager, and/or Project Manager on projects in Upstate NY. This hands-on position involves leading tasks and projects, managing staff, working directly with clients, and participating in business development activities. As a Project Manager and team leader, you will develop municipal water and wastewater projects, ensuring their successful execution and delivery while enhancing the team's capabilities. Your responsibilities will span from planning to the design and construction of water and wastewater treatment plants, pump stations, stormwater systems, and distribution and collection systems. You will be responsible for developing project scopes, budgets, and delivery schedules, ensuring that tasks and projects are completed on time and within budget. You will perform detailed engineering calculations and analyses using technical design software to address complex issues, with knowledge of CADD software being advantageous though drafting is not required. Your role will involve active participation in industry conferences and associations at various levels through committee memberships, presentations, and leadership roles. You will engage in marketing and business development activities for the water/wastewater market in the region including developing project proposals and collaborating with other senior staff to manage regional clients. Additionally, you will coordinate project execution activities across disciplines and oversee design projects both small and large from inception to completion. Responsibilities include preparing comprehensive construction packages for water/wastewater systems, developing and managing cost estimates and project schedules, and supervising and mentoring junior engineers and technical staff. You are expected to uphold Arcadis’ standards and specifications for municipal water and wastewater design and construction projects and will travel up to 20% for project-related activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil, Environmental, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering or a related field of study
  • 10 years of progressively responsible experience
  • Licensed Professional Engineer in New York State
  • Strong staff development and supervision skills including the ability to mentor junior-level staff.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills are essential with the ability to convey information clearly and concisely.
  • Strong client relationship skills including experience in preparing and developing proposals, managing client expectations, and delivering engineering projects that meet or exceed client needs.
  • Successful track record in water/wastewater plant and facility design as well as construction administration and oversight is critical.
  • Experience preparing, reviewing, and approving project drawings, specifications, schedules, and cost estimates.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering or an MBA
  • 15 years of progressively responsible experience
  • Secondary certification (W/WW Operators License, BCEE, PMP, LEED, ENV SP)
  • Active participation in regional (local/state) and/or national professional associations
  • Knowledge of CADD software being advantageous though drafting is not required.

  • The salary range for this position is $125,000 - $147,000. Actual salaries will vary and are based on several factors, such as experience, education, budget, internal equity, project and location.
