About The Position

This position is based in Woodbury, Nassau County, NY. 11797 IMEG is hiring a Senior Wastewater Engineer in Long Island, NY, to lead wastewater treatment plant design and construction. In this role, you’ll provide technical leadership in design—guiding project direction, developing practical, code-compliant solutions, and partnering with multidisciplinary teams to deliver strong client outcomes. This position is ideal for a mid-to-senior level engineer ready to take on greater technical responsibility, mentorship, and project influence.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Civil, Chemical Engineering, or equivalent, required
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License required
  • 15 years of experience minimum required.
  • Demonstrated experience in wastewater treatment plant design
  • Hands-on design and construction experience required
  • Strong technical judgment and collaborative approach to project delivery
  • Advanced proficiency in design techniques, tools, and concepts involved in the production of technical plans and specifications
  • Advanced proficiency in technical and analytical skills for civil infrastructure
  • Strong training, mentoring, and leadership skills
  • Ability to perform final quality control checks in their area of expertise
  • Ability to sell work and develop client relationships
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Attention to detail and problem-solving skills
  • Eagerness to adapt to new challenges
  • Ability to travel up to 25% with occasional overnight stays

Nice To Haves

  • PE licensure preferred (or ability to obtain within a reasonable timeframe)
  • Proficient with CADD/BIM/Revit experience a plus

Responsibilities

  • Lead wastewater treatment plant design and construction, including process evaluation, sizing, layout, and performance optimization
  • Provide technical leadership for municipal civil infrastructure and site design, delivering constructible, resilient solutions that meet client and regulatory requirements
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary planning, design, and permitting efforts; partner with clients to define requirements and communicate technical solutions clearly
  • Perform site assessments and produce engineering analyses, calculations, specifications, and technical reports
  • Drive quality control through in-process design reviews and IMEG standards compliance; resolve field issues with minimal senior support
  • Mentor and train engineers; lead project presentations/interviews and stay current on industry best practices and innovation
