About The Position

Apple's Multimedia Engineering team is looking for a video standards engineer who will represent the voice of Apple Multimedia in standards bodies around the world. In this role, you will join a small team that is responsible for Apple's engagement with several standards developing organizations including Alliance for Open Media (AOM), ITU, MPEG, 3GPP, and others. You will investigate and develop new media technologies, collaborate with other teams within Apple in such development, and then engage with these organizations for their standardization.

Requirements

  • Knowledgeable in video compression and the multimedia field, including 3D visual information coding.
  • Good knowledge of the development of international standards, especially those pertaining to video/multimedia compression.
  • Experienced in developing sophisticated video compression technologies such as MPEG-4 AVC, HEVC, VVC, or AOMedia's AV1 and AV2.
  • Track record of effective participation.
  • Able to develop, analyze, propose and refine new algorithms and techniques.
  • Help develop Apple's intellectual property position with inventions and filings.
  • Experienced in key multimedia specifications from AOM, ISO, ITU, SMPTE.
  • Familiar with software development tools including Xcode, Git.
  • Proficient in practical software development and able to contribute to large codebases (C, C++).
  • Excellent writing, speaking, presentation and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provide a clear position on Apple's analysis of ongoing standards.
  • Refine and comment on work in progress.
  • Propose and drive to completion Apple's initiatives.
  • Steer the work to develop the field in line with Apple's vision and values.
  • Represent Apple at standardization calls and meetings.
  • Integrate feedback from the Apple community on ongoing work.
  • Engage with various standards bodies including AOM, MPEG, 3GPP, ITU.
  • Involve in the development of new 2D and 3D multimedia standards.
