About The Position

The Senior Vice President (SVP), Portfolio Credit Risk Manager in Wealth Risk Management is a senior leadership role within the Second Line of Defense (2LOD). This position provides independent risk oversight for a diverse portfolio, including retail-unsecured portfolios and wholesale securities-based lending (SBL) from the Wealth at Work (WaW) and US Consumer Wealth (USCW) business segments. The core objective is to lead portfolio risk management activities to minimize credit losses and protect the Citigroup franchise and reputation. This individual will ensure portfolio risks remain within the firm's established risk appetite, align practices with regulatory and internal frameworks, and provide effective, objective challenge to the First Line of Defense (1LOD). The SVP will also evaluate emerging risks linked to client behavior, market conditions, and macroeconomic trends to protect the firm's financial stability.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of prior experience in a credit-related, risk management, or banking role, with a strong background in Wealth Management, Retail Risk, or related business functions.
  • Solid knowledge and hands-on experience in risk management, especially with credit portfolios, exhibiting abilities in scrutinizing, probing, and supervising first line of defense risk management
  • Strong familiarity with collateral management, market risk dynamics, and regulatory expectations for consumer credit and SBL.
  • Knowledge of Citi Retail Credit Risk and Wholesale Credit Risk policies and frameworks.
  • Proficiency in credit analysis, counterparty risk, and portfolio stress testing, with the ability to predict and plan for potential market fluctuations.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with a demonstrated ability to explain complex financial concepts to diverse stakeholders, negotiate effectively, and influence strategic decisions.
  • Proven ability to operate independently, deliver under tight timeframes, and manage multiple complex activities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated leadership in driving collaboration across teams.
  • Exceptional project management skills, with the capability to oversee multiple projects from inception to completion.
  • Proficiency in ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Bachelor's degree/University degree or equivalent experience.

Responsibilities

  • Provide effective challenge to Portfolio Risk management activities.
  • Supervise, scrutinize, and provide credible challenge to 1LOD underwriting, exposure management, and margin practices to ensure alignment with the firm's risk appetite.
  • Partner on the end-to-end framework for credit reserve adequacy, including portfolio-level risk appetite statements and stress thresholds.
  • Oversee, analyze, challenge and approve, as applicable, retail unsecured credit loan and counterparty transactions, providing credit recommendations and guidance to senior risk managers and structuring transactions to contain credit risk within acceptable parameters.
  • Provide independent oversight of SBL portfolios, encompassing collateral quality, margin methodologies, and stress testing.
  • Assess the effectiveness of credit risk processes, product programs, and standards to identify opportunities for improvement and drive strategic enhancements.
  • Provide an autonomous assessment of the accuracy and appropriateness of risk ratings and classifications for assigned portfolios.
  • Interface as needed with regulators and internal audits, managing information requests and overseeing any required remediation efforts.
  • Partner with stakeholders to understand data sources and improve the process of defining, extracting, and utilizing data for risk management purposes.
  • Review and assess the appropriateness, completeness and functionality pf controls applicable to WaW/USCW Risk and manage the performance of same where applicable.
  • Report to and assist the WaW/USCW Risk Head with tasks as required and perform other assigned duties.
