About The Position

The Senior Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer (CSO) is responsible for all activities related to conceptualization and implementation of corporate strategy and business development activities. This role coordinates the development and implementation of a comprehensive strategic plan and business development process in collaboration with the Senior Leadership Team, the CEO and the board of directors. This position also oversees mergers and acquisitions of new entities and/or physician practices and is instrumental in setting the trajectory for the growth and development of the health system and the service lines provided. The CSO maintains oversight of all areas of business development, the COPN process and physician outreach strategies including the management services organization and physician liaison programs. In partnership with the CEO and other senior leaders, this position also plays a pivotal role in community relations and government affairs.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in business administration, Health Care Administration or a related field is required.
  • Minimum of seven years health care experience in a senior leadership position with demonstrated experience in business development and oversight of complex strategic initiatives.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated skill and comfort in proactively building relationships with community leaders, physicians, and media.
  • Highly skilled in public speaking, community relations, healthcare industry complexities and driving successful marketing campaigns.
  • Demonstrated ability to navigate political and regulatory environments along with solid judgment, strong values, and a passion for healthcare.

Responsibilities

  • Works in collaboration with the Senior Leadership team as well as the Patient Experience Team to provide an environment that focuses on a positive patient and Associate experience every time.
  • Recognizes the importance of patient/staff safety precautions as it relates to specific departments, the organization, and areas of responsibility.
  • Collaborates with Patient facing departments, clinicians, and medical staff on precaution utilization and supports appropriate procedures to enhance patient/staff safety in daily operations.
  • Participates in Senior Leader Experience Rounding and all applicable reporting and follow up.
  • Participates in the organization's performance improvement program and practices.
  • Actively assists in improving performance based on results obtained from patient satisfaction/PI activities.
  • Fosters a High Reliability and an operationally excellent philosophy.
  • Fosters an environment of accountability by applying consistent and fair practice in day-to-day oversight of areas of responsibility.
  • Leads by example upholding the highest level of excellence in leadership standards and applications.

  • Creates, presents, and implements long term and annual strategic and business development plans and programs.
  • Evaluates, plans for, and recommends business development initiatives to the CEO and Board of Trustees.
  • Works in partnership with outside consultants as needed on environmental scans and data relevant to growth and expansion of the health system.
  • Regularly reviews and addresses the competitive market and recommends actions that will enhance market share of Mary Washington Healthcare.
  • Conducts market research; monitors trends and develops and coordinates means to seek regular input from Mary Washington Healthcare's key constituencies regarding the quality and service levels of Mary Washington Healthcare's programs.
  • Represents Mary Washington Healthcare at a wide variety of community functions.
  • Oversees all policies relevant to corporate strategy and business development.
  • Works in partnership with vendors, IS and internal stakeholders on relevant analytics to help drive market position and growth.
  • Maintains a comprehensive operational and initiatives plan that aligns with the organization's strategic plan.
  • Prepares in collaboration with reporting leadership, the annual departmental operating and capital budgets for respective areas of oversight within established guidelines.
  • Ensures all performance reviews, engagement plans, Associate rounding are completed.
  • Participates in all organization led quality initiatives.
  • Maintains compliance with OSHA regulations.
  • Ensures that HIPAA regulations, Joint Commission standards and MWHC's corporate compliance policies are adhered within areas of oversight.
