Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; additional education or certification in veterinary assisting or animal care is a plus.
  • 2-5 years of veterinarian assistant experience.
  • Previous experience in a veterinary clinic or animal care setting is preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of veterinary procedures, animal behavior, and medical terminology is an advantage.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills for interacting with clients and team members.
  • Ability to handle animals safely and effectively, with a compassionate and patient approach.
  • Good organizational and multitasking abilities, with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Professional and reliable demeanor, with a commitment to maintaining high standards of practice.

Responsibilities

  • Assist veterinarians with medical and surgical procedures, including anesthesia administration, intubation, and place IV catheters efficiently.
  • Collect skin/ear cytology and skin scraping. Evaluate organisms under the microscope.
  • Preform dental prophies - take dental radiographs, clean, polish, and chart teeth
  • Conduct diagnostic tests such as blood draws, urinalysis, and radiography, and prepare samples for laboratory analysis.
  • Monitor and record patients’ vital signs, behavior, and progress during examinations, treatments, and recovery.
  • Administer medications, vaccines, and treatments, as prescribed by veterinarians, including oral, injectable, and topical medications.
  • Prepare animals for surgery and assist with postoperative care, including wound care, pain management, and monitoring complications.
  • Provide comfort and support to patients, ensuring their well-being and addressing any signs of distress.
  • Educate clients about their pets’ health, treatment plans, and at-home care instructions, including dietary and behavioral guidance.
  • Address client questions and concerns with professionalism and empathy, ensuring a positive experience of pet owners.
  • Assist with the scheduling of appointments and follow-up visits, as well as managing client communications and inquiries.
