Senior Vertical Transportation Engineer
About The Position
ELEVATE your career with a fabulous opportunity at AECOM as a Senior Vertical Transportation Engineer on our New York Metro team! We offer exciting projects all across the US working on a variety of projects, allowing you to expand your scope into new territories. This role can be worked from either our NYC, Piscataway or Bloomfield, NJ offices. The Vertical Transportation Engineer will design, develop, and review drawings and submittals on vertical transportation projects (elevators, escalators, and moving walkways). This professional will adapt and modify design features and operational methods to meet a variety of situations. The selected candidate will have experience performing the following:
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree plus six (6) years of experience with vertical transportation or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
- Due to the nature of this role, United State Citizenship is required
Nice To Haves
- 10 years of experience working with escalators, elevators and moving walkways
- Possess an active Professional Engineering (PE) license and/or Qualified Elevator Inspector (QEI) certification
- A strong analytical knowledge and understanding of engineering principles.
- A desire to work constructively in a team, finding holistic building design solutions in a multidisciplinary environment.
- The ability to communicate clearly, through presentations and in writing, with clients and design teams, both internal and external.
- Proven experience of undertaking Vertical Transportation Design, using passenger traffic analysis software where appropriate.
- Excellent planning, organizational and time management skills, with a proven ability to work under pressure and to meet strict deadlines.
- Able to understand the balance of engineering priorities on differing projects.
- Able to quickly develop successful client relationships,
- Knowledge and experience in utilizing design software including passenger traffic analysis software (ELEVATE), AutoCAD, BIM/Revit, Word, Excel and Outlook.
Responsibilities
- Working closely with principal designers to assist in the development of Vertical Transportation design criteria.
- Be able to work independently to solve vertical transportation project issues
- Leading a vertical transportation project team in the development of conceptual design criteria, schematic design, detailed design, and construction documents.
- Performing condition assessments and writing reports for Vertical Transportation equipment modernization.
- Producing drawings and associated reports and assisting with the preparation of vertical transportation project specifications.
- Inspecting installations and witness testing on site.
- Developing vertical transportation design concepts, calculating number, size and speed of elevators for all types of buildings including high rise, ideally utilizing the Elevate® software program
- Designing and providing design feedback for elevators, escalators, and moving walkways. Retrofitting these into existing facilities with very congested existing systems and infrastructure.
- Delivering vertical transportation solutions on major and/or complex projects, including for new construction, retrofitting equipment in existing facilities, and modernizing existing vertical transportation equipment.
