About The Position

The Hatcher Group is seeking an accomplished UX/UI Designer with 15+ years of experience creating elegant, user-centered digital experiences. In this role, you will lead the design and ongoing refinement of web interfaces supporting the Military OneSource program with a focus on delivering clear, accessible, and engaging content for military families and key stakeholders. The ideal candidate will join a collaborative, high-performing team dedicated to a mission-driven government client while also contributing to the design and evolution of web products across a diverse portfolio of clients. This role requires a designer who can balance strategic thinking with hands-on execution, and who thrives in a fast-paced, purpose-driven environment. Our flexible-first work culture empowers you to deliver your best work wherever you are. While remote work is regular part of our operations, candidates within commuting distance of our Bethesda, MD office are strongly preferred to support weekly in-person collaboration and team building.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree with 15+ years of relevant UX/UI experience.
  • Active Secret (preferred) or Public Trust clearance, or the ability to obtain such clearance.
  • SME level knowledge of user-centered design principles, common patterns in UI design, and best practices in UX and UI design.
  • Strong proficiency in Figma, Adobe Creative Suite, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong proficiency in user research methods and tools, such as Optimal Workshop or UserTesting.com.
  • Effective observational, listening, verbal, and written communication skills; demonstrated ability to share and communicate complex concepts.
  • Detail-oriented, organizational, and collaborative skills, with prior experience with virtual whiteboarding tools such as Miro.
  • Ability to take direction, work efficiently with a team, and adhere to tight deadlines on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Must be a US Citizen and fluent English speaker.

Nice To Haves

  • Any level of front-end knowledge is a plus (HTML, CSS, and Javascript)
  • Familiarity with project management tools (e.g., Jira, Confluence, and Monday.com)

Responsibilities

  • Designing and refining customer-facing interfaces that deliver meaningful, intuitive, and engaging user experiences.
  • Collaborating closely with cross-functional partners to translate complex requirements into clear, user-friendly design solutions for web environments and integrated systems.
  • Producing and iterating upon wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity designs that balance visual excellence with usability and performance.
  • Driving continuous improvement through user research, usability testing, interpretation of web analytics, and stakeholder feedback, evolving design solutions to meet changing user needs and expectations.
  • Championing accessibility by supporting and advocating for WCAG and Section 508 compliance throughout the design lifecycle.
  • Bridging aesthetics and functionality by aligning visual design with practical, task-driven workflows to enhance platform effectiveness and user satisfaction.
  • Applying and adhering to established client design systems and brand standards to ensure consistency, quality, and scalability across digital products.
