About The Position

The purpose of this position is to supervise utility maintenance crews and maintain the wastewater collection system. This is accomplished by supervising and participating with the work crew(s); maintaining the wastewater collection system, repairing, maintaining and installing new mains/manholes, making new taps, cleaning/televising pipelines, clearing blockages, performing chemical root and grease treatments, installing safety systems, being a competent person on an excavation site, ensuring safety of assigned workers and ensuring all systems are working properly.

  • Driver's License Required - Y Type - A Endorsements - N - Tanker
  • TCEQ Water Distribution Class C License.
  • Individuals who do not currently have this license will be given 24 months or 4 failed attempts at license testing to obtain one.
  • Mission Essential Position will be required to report for all inclement weather.
  • Must be able to work different shifts and be on call.
  • This position is expected to regularly work in or around bodies of water greater in depth than 4 feet, which may pose hazard, especially in the absence of swimming ability.
  • Collects, classifies or formats data or information in accordance with a prescribed schema or plan to facilitate the identification and extraction of useful information.
  • Serves others such as customers, attending to their requests and exchanging information with them.
  • Responsible for only small quantities of low-cost items or supplies where opportunities for achieving economies or preventing loss are negligible.
  • Over one year and up to and including two years.
  • Requires High school graduation or GED equivalent supplemented by specialized courses/training equivalent to completion of one year of college
  • Uses basic addition and subtraction, such as making change or measuring.
  • Reads simple sentences, instructions, or work orders; writes simple sentences and completing simple job forms; speaks simple sentences using basic grammar.
  • Makes a few decisions, affecting the individual and a few co-workers; works in a stable environment with clear and uncomplicated written/oral instructions but with some variations from the routine.
  • Performs skilled work involving rules/systems with almost constant problem solving; requires normal attention with short periods of concentration for accurate results and occasional exposure to unusual pressure.
  • Impact of decisions is moderately serious - affects work unit and may affect other units or citizens; or loss of life could occur but probability is low.
  • Medium to heavy work that involves walking, standing, stooping, lifting, digging, pushing and raising objects and also involves exerting between 20 to 50 pounds of force on a regular basis and/or 50 to 100 pounds of force on an occasional basis.
  • Handles or uses machines, tools, or equipment requiring moderate instruction and experience such as large shop equipment and machines, firefighting apparatus, protective equipment, gang mowers, tractors, vehicles, police vehicles or light trucks, firearms, computers, peripherals, medical or dental equipment, software programs such as word processing, spreadsheets, or custom applications, switchboard; or may repair power tools and light equipment and office machines.
  • Operates vehicles in urban areas where heavy vehicle traffic is prevalent such as driving delivery truck to deliver mail and parcels within city; or works in proximity to moving mechanical parts such as in wood working or metal working shop.
  • Responsible for safety and health of others and for occasional enforcement of the laws and standards of public health and safety.

Responsibilities

  • Regular and reliable attendance in compliance with given schedules is a mandatory requirement of this position. Schedules may be subject to change with or without advance notice
  • Supervises the work crew by ordering the essential parts needed to perform the assigned task, reviewing work orders, supervising the work crew as they perform maintenance and repair on water lines and mains, and ensuring that the proper safety procedures are followed.
  • Repairs water main leaks, installs new taps, replaces and repairs valves, and changes out meters by excavating, notifying customers, repairing or changing out parts and lines, and covering holes.
  • Repairs and replaces fire hydrants by inspecting the hydrant, rebuilding, repairing or replacing parts.
  • Responds to emergency calls as required.
