Senior User Experience Researcher

NclusionPalo Alto, CA
161d$150,000 - $200,000

About The Position

Nclusion is on a mission to provide traditional financial services to 1.5 billion people worldwide without access today. Without a secure way to save, invest, or transfer money, individuals are not empowered to accumulate short or long-term wealth. We're changing that by bridging the gap between traditional banking and the communities that need it most. We’re looking for a hands-on, curious, and impact-driven User Experience Researcher to join as our first dedicated researcher. You’ll lay the foundation for how we understand users by starting with our work in Haiti and expanding across other underserved markets. This role is core to our mission: building digital financial tools that work for people who have long been left out of formal financial systems. You’ll partner closely with product, design, engineering, and local teams to bring the voice of the user into everything we build. Some research will be scrappy and fast-paced; some will be foundational and strategic. You'll help us figure out what we can borrow from existing global studies, where to dig deep, and how to translate insight into action all while helping define what UX research excellence looks like at Nclusion.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of mixed-method research experience in industry settings, both qualitative (fieldwork, in-depth interviews, usability tests) and quantitative (surveys, A/B testing, behavioral data analysis) research.
  • Thrive in ambiguity: take our vision and business context and define our key questions and research roadmap, operating with limited data or precedent.
  • Strong track record of driving impact via translating insights clearly and persuasively into actionable recommendations. Impact on lasting products is a plus.
  • Scrappy with a bias to action: we’re a startup, we need to learn fast
  • Operationally adept: can scope a study, manage a budget, coordinate vendors, and hit deadlines.
  • Experience conducting research with underserved communities or users in emerging markets, or demonstrable curiosity in this space.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to present and explain complex ideas cross-functionally to various stakeholders, both verbally and in writing, ensuring company level alignment, shared understanding and collective impact.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in financial technology or financial inclusion
  • French, Spanish, or Haitian Creole language proficiency
  • Comfort with travel where relevant, safe and additive to your work

Responsibilities

  • Lead generative and evaluative research using mixed methods across the entire product lifecycle from ideation and design to development, launch, and post-launch optimization.
  • Understand our customers deeply: from Haitian lottery fans and their dream-reading ticket-sellers, to families moving money across borders and encountering digital financial tools for the first time.
  • Work cross-functionally with product, design, data, engineering, and local teams to shape how we build and launch digital financial tools.
  • Own research operations: from defining goals to recruiting participants in compliance with data privacy regulations, managing vendors, setting timelines, and sharing insights responsibly.
  • Make research scalable by creating playbooks, training local team members, and developing best practices.
  • Synthesize what’s already known (from prior research and global studies) and focus our efforts on the gaps that matter most.

Benefits

  • 401k with 4% match
  • Medical Insurance
  • Dental Insurance
  • Vision Insurance
  • Competitive compensation & equity
  • Flexible PTO – We focus on impact, not tracking vacation days. We encourage a minimum of 14 days.
  • In-office lunch, team events & culture
