About The Position

The Senior Underwriter administers the underwriting agencies within their assigned territory. Completes work in compliance with company underwriting, authority, and pricing standards. Maintains a solid understanding of AmTrust’s mission, vision, and values. Upholds the standards of the AmTrust organization. This position is for a Senior Underwriter on the Core Renewal team informally leading a team of underwriting assistants.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience with and expert technical knowledge of workers compensation, commercial property, casualty, automobile, and umbrella insurance coverage and risk selection, methods and pricing.
  • 5+ years of commercial lines property and casualty experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university or equivalent work experience.
  • Ability to travel including overnight stays within the assigned territory as needed.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and analyze data and make an informed, calculated decision.

Nice To Haves

  • CPCU, AU, CIC, or other industry designations preferred
  • Ability to train, coach and mentor individuals of various backgrounds within area of expertise

Responsibilities

  • Write a profitable book of business through solid risk analysis, pricing and servicing.
  • Maintains compliance with state filings and adheres to corporate underwriting and pricing guidelines.
  • Operate within written authority grant and makes referrals to management and Home Office Underwriting as required.
  • Collaborate closely with Underwriting, Sales, and support teams.
  • Partner with Territory Management to develop and implement the territory business plan and share accountability with team in meeting goals.
  • Take initiative with the team to develop, manage, and maintain outside client relationships which will include limited travel within the territory to meet with assigned agencies and related organizations.
  • Actively participate in industry events as required, such as but not limited to agency or association conventions.
  • Exhibit professional, timely, and courteous communication and service to external clients and internal staff.
  • Provide the pertinent information and guidance to support staff required to process coverage requests in accordance with service guidelines
  • Assist in gathering and communicating competitive information.
  • Maintain current knowledge of market trends and demands.
  • Perform other functionally related duties as assigned.
