About The Position

The Sr Underwriter is responsible for analyzing and underwriting new and renewal accounts for public companies seeking Directors and Officers (D&O), Employment Practices, and Fiduciary Liability insurance coverage. This role involves evaluating complex risk profiles, developing broker relationships, and contributing to the profitability and growth of the portfolio.

Requirements

  • BA/BS degree in Business, Finance, Risk Management, or a related field of study
  • Minimum of 3+ years of underwriting experience
  • Strong technical and marketing expertise; proven ability to build and maintain productive relationships with brokers and clients.
  • Insurance industry knowledge
  • Computer proficiency – skilled in Microsoft Office Suite and underwriting systems; comfortable using digital tools for analysis and documentation.
  • Organization skills – maintain detailed and orderly underwriting files that present an accurate representation of a deal that has been bound or a lost/declined opportunity that follows the internal underwriting guidelines and state specific requirements.
  • Financial literacy – ability to analyze income statement, balance sheet, cash flow statement in order to identify risk factors.
  • Communication skills – strong verbal and written communication skills necessary to present account synopsis to senior managers for pricing consideration. Ability to interact with senior managers (CEO, CFO, GC, Treasurer) of existing or potential insureds during underwriting client meetings. Ability to explain underwriting positions to key brokers on a specific insured or in general to generate submissions.
  • Technical skills – fluent in policy terms/conditions and how changes to the basic terms/conditions can change the assumed risk.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive underwriting analysis and prepare thorough work-ups that contain a detailed financial analysis, claims/legal history, and a review of significant recent corporate developments for each new business and renewal account.
  • Communicate with brokers during the renewal process to ascertain the client’s renewal expectations and on new business accounts to find the best opportunity for successfully winning the business.
  • Participate in client meetings designed to address each account’s risk factors and mitigation approach.
  • Work closely with senior managers to rate and price new/renewal accounts and draft all quote/binder letters.
  • Issue policies in accordance with underwriting guidelines and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain accurate and organized underwriting files for all in-force and lost/declined accounts.
  • Monitor market trends and competitor activity to inform underwriting decisions.
